We have an exciting opportunity for an Astromaterials Curation Processor to join our JETS II contract team at NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX.

If selected you will:

  • Work in an Astromaterials Curation facility housing unique and protected planetary samples.
  • Maintain accurate records of astromaterials sample data, documentation, procedures, and databases.
  • Handle rocks and fine-grained materials in compliance with established procedures at all times for scientific allocation, cataloging, and long-term preservation.
  • Responsibilities include tool preparation, sample transfers, cutting or chipping, subdividing and separating, basic characterization, imaging, and weighing.
  • Support routine labeling, inventory management, and organization of astromaterials samples, ensuring accurate tracking of sample movement throughout the
  • Curation workflow in relevant databases.
  • Prepare astromaterials samples for a variety of geologic analyses.
  • Assist visiting Principal Investigators and support guided tours of Curation laboratories.
  • Contribute to general laboratory maintenance and perform additional tasks as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field plus a minimum of 2 years of professional experience.
  • Possess strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow procedures and maintain compliance.
  • Proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently while collaborating within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated strength in task planning and organization to ensure successful delivery.
  • Strong data stewardship skills to accurately capture, document, and maintain records to ensure long-term accessibility.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Project management training and/or experience.
  • Experience working with and/or studying extraterrestrial samples, particularly Apollo or meteorite samples.
  • Experience working in a cleanroom and/or familiarity with ISO 6-7 cleanroom environments and standards.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, and Smartsheet or other task/project management tool.
