Job description

Electrical Process Control Supervisor - Caldwell, ID

The J.R. Simplot Company is a diverse, privately held global food and agriculture company headquartered in Boise, Idaho. We are a true farm-to-table company with an integrated portfolio including food processing and food brands, phosphate mining, fertilizer manufacturing, farming, ranching and cattle production, and other enterprises related to agriculture.

Summary

This role directs and coordinates the instrumentation, electronics, computer and electrical needs of the total operation to ensure maximum operating efficiency in a safe, cost effective and timely manner. This role is accountable for the maintaining, upgrading, continued operation of the electrical, instrumentation and control, the computer systems of the facility and in keeping up to date with the latest technology in the field of electronics. This role trains and manages the electrical and process control staff in a participative management style to ensure the quality, quantity of work performance and development of subordinates meets the necessary requirements to meet operational goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintains a positive professional relationship with all contractors and equipment manufacturers. Ensures that the Plant Policies, Procedures and Union contracts are administered and followed in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Is responsible to attend and participate in training activities appropriate to the position and to incorporate acquired skills and knowledge.
  • Is responsible for identifying the training needs of subordinates, ensuring their participation in appropriate training activities, and reinforcing subordinate’s skill development with coaching, feedback and recognition.
  • Is accountable for identifying potential capital projects and repair jobs, and new projects in their area.
  • Ensures the parts inventory for electrical, instrumentation, computer equipment is adequate to meet maintenance needs.
  • Directs the electronic, electrical and PLC/HMI function to assure the maximum operating efficiencies are maintained to meet minimal downtime, quality, volume, grade, yield, safety performance and cost control.
  • Provide technical support to ensure the Floor level controls, SCADA and other information systems provide the necessary information to operate efficiently.
  • Work with operations and maintenance personnel to ensure that all plant systems are operating efficiently within their limits. Is accountable for the electrical, instrumentation, computer portion of the maintenance budget.
Typical Education

Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Instrumentation (2-year program), or Electronics coursework/degree combined with the standard education requirements.

Required Certifications

Journeyman Electrician License from the State of Idaho or a State with reciprocity such as, Oregon, Colorado, Maine, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Wyoming

3+ years related experience and/or training

Previous experience supervising teams or direct reports.

Previous experience and/or training in Programmable Logic Controller, Human machine Interfaces, Instrumentation (4-20 ma loops, 110 V AC, 24V DC, analog) and network communications; read and understand single line schematics and drawings.

Previous experience with Medium Volt power distribution.

Other Information

Primary Shift:

  • Dayshift, Monday thru Friday

Additional Coverage Expectations:

  • Support for monthly plant cleaning cycles: Overtime shift required
  • Full support for extended plant maintenance periods (2–3 times per year)
  • Some holiday coverage required
  • Weekend "On Call" coverage (5-6 times a year)
