Join University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center as a Central Sterile Processing Clinical Coordinator


This role provides clinical leadership, education, training, and operational support across the Central Sterile Processing Departments within UM Capital Region Health. The ideal candidate brings strong sterile processing expertise, a passion for staff development, and the ability to promote quality, competency, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence while supporting perioperative teams and physicians.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following statements describe the general nature and level of work performed and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties.


  • Coordinate staff orientation, annual competencies, ongoing education, training, and competency assessments.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate educational programs based on changing practices, standards, equipment, and department needs.
  • Provide coaching, guidance, remediation, and one-on-one support to Central Sterile Processing staff.
  • Provide direct clinical supervision and serve as a resource to Sterile Processing team members.
  • Support staff certification preparedness by providing educational resources and conducting review sessions as needed.
  • Maintain high standards for decontamination, disinfection, inspection, assembly, wrapping, and sterilization of medical equipment and surgical instruments.
  • Support surgical instrumentation management, including new instrument sets, count sheet revisions, inventory, and staff education on new equipment and applicable IFUs.
  • Conduct ongoing audits of staff training records and maintain required education and competency documentation.
  • Assist CSP leadership with policies, standard operating procedures, staff education, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor operational compliance with Joint Commission, OSHA, AORN, federal, state, and local standards governing sterile processing activities.
  • Collaborate with Perioperative Leadership, Service Line Coordinators, physicians, and staff to support instrument and tray management and meet clinical needs.
  • Support quality assurance initiatives related to perioperative services, staff productivity, and infection control.
  • Maintain flexibility to work across shifts, including weekends, when necessary to support staff education and competency needs.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSURE:
  • CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) certification through HSPA in good standing, required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of Central Sterile Processing experience, required.
  • 3 years of supervisory experience within a Central Sterile Processing environment, preferred.
  • Associate degree in a health-related field, preferred.
  • CER (Certified Endoscope Reprocessor), CIS (Certified Instrument Specialist), and/or CHL (Certified Healthcare Leader), preferred.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Valid driver's license with access to insured transportation, required.
  • Ability to effectively educate, coach, and support staff while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Bilingual candidates encouraged to apply.
