Kabawa and Bar Kabawa are projects from Chef Paul Carmichael and Momofuku. They are dedicated to celebrating Caribbean culture in the East Village and reflect Chef Paul’s culinary journey.

Compensation Band: $11.35 per hour plus applicable tips

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and guide guest’s complete restaurant experience
  • Provide knowledgeable, approachable, efficient, and energetic service at all times
  • Maintain full menu knowledge for both food and beverage items, including all allergen information
  • Adhere to all company service standards and protocols
  • Utilize the POS system correctly for order entry and payment processing
  • Ensure proper table maintenance, including water service, pre-bussing, etc.
  • Stock and prepare service-related items
  • Run food from kitchen to tables
  • Perform tableside service should it apply
  • Maintain professional and warm guest communications
  • Recognize key people in the industry, VIP guests and contacts related to the company and follow company protocol related to their visit
  • Communicate respectfully and clearly with service team and management
  • Support team members in the completion of their duties to ensure satisfaction of all guests before, during, and after service
  • Engage management for any escalated guest situations
  • Adhere to Momofuku's Cleaning and sanitation SOPs
  • Additional service and/or operational tasks as determined by manager
  • Adhere to grooming and dress code standards
  • Assist teammates to anticipate all other FOH needs
  • Handle a high-volume section
  • Perform service quickly and efficiently without compromising the guest experience 
  • Complete all assigned opening and closing duties 
  • Maintain current menu knowledge and up to date on any menu or beverage updates
  • Speak and answer questions at pre-service from the Managers and Chefs
  • Perform well on any quizzing or testing provided by Restaurant Leadership

Required Qualifications

  • A positive and enthusiastic attitude, as well as a desire to learn, grow, and develop new skills
  • minimum 2 years in an upscale, fast paced, high volume restaurant 
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and resolve guest conflict
  • Willing to accept guidance in a positive manner and implement the direction in a way that is productive for both you and the team
  • Able to work in a standing/walking position for long periods of time
  • Available to work nights, holidays and long days as necessary
  • Ability to demonstrate quick thinking and adaptability in a constantly changing environment
  • Strong salesmanship skills 

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience as a Server, Captain, or related role in a restaurant with a comparable service style and/or cuisine.
  • Ability to train new Servers in all aspects and responsibilities of the role
  • A proven track record of dependability and a continuous focus on learning and development

Physical Demands

The physical demands for this position are seeing, hearing, speaking, reaching, frequently lifting up to 25 pounds, sitting, standing, for 10 to 12 hours, bending, and moving intermittently during working hours. These physical requirements may be accomplished with or without reasonable accommodations.
