Job purpose

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining programs that ensure compliance with environmental, occupational health, and safety regulations within the helicopter MRO facility. This role ensures that all EHS initiatives align with AS9100/9110 standards, ITAR requirements, FAA regulations, and company policies. The EHS Coordinator will serve as a key leader in driving a culture of safety, environmental responsibility, and regulatory compliance across all MRO operations.

Duties and Responsibilities

•Develop, implement, and oversee the company’s Environmental, Health, and Safety management system in compliance with OSHA, EPA, FAA, AS9100/9110, and ITAR regulations.

•Conduct regular audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify hazards and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Perform annual AS9100/ISO9001 audits, gap analysis prior to external audits.

•Maintain and update EHS policies, procedures, and training programs, ensuring all employees understand and comply with safety protocols.

•Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses; identify root causes and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).

•Ensure proper waste management, spill response, and hazardous materials handling in compliance with environmental laws.

•Monitor and manage key EHS performance indicators (KPIs) to track performance and drive continuous improvement.

•Coordinate and lead emergency response plans, drills, and crisis management programs.

•Work closely with Maintenance, Quality, Facilities, and HR teams to ensure alignment between operational safety and production goals.

•Support FAA and AS9100/9110 audits and participate in customer and regulatory audits as required.

•Maintain ITAR compliance regarding controlled data, materials, and processes.

•Prepare and submit required environmental and safety reports to regulatory agencies.

•Serve as the company’s subject matter expert on occupational health, environmental compliance, and industrial hygiene.

•Coordinate with ARFF personnel for emergency response drills, fuel spill response procedures, evacuation plans and training alignment.

•Custodian of the company Corrective Action process and sustain a higher level of knowledge related to Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and investigatory practices to ensure adequacy in responses and approval of responses regardless of the submitting party.

•Point of contact for customer initiated corrective actions.

•Investigate non-conformance root causes resulting from internal and external discrepancies, as well as issue corrective and/or preventive actions. QA Manager will ensure corrective and/or preventive actions are implemented and effective.

Workplace Safety:

•Adhere to OSHA and FAA safety standards.

•Ensure compliance with company Safety Management System (SMS).

•Identify, report, and mitigate workplace hazards and unsafe practices.

•Promote a “Safety First” culture among all maintenance and inspection personnel.

•Wear and enforce use of required personal protective equipment (PPE).

•Enforce safe work practices, personal protective equipment (PPE) use, and ergonomic best practices.

•Identify and mitigate risks associated with aircraft maintenance operations, including confined spaces, high-pressure systems, fuel handling, and heavy lifting.

•Develop Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for MRO processes.

•Ensure compliance with Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Fall Protection, and Hazard Communication standards.

•Assist other departments to achieve overall mission success.

•Maintain best practices and a positive working environment with all parties at the worksite.

• Coordinate with other departments to achieve outlined goals.

• Respond to communications (e-mails, meeting requests, Teams messages, etc.) set by team members in a timely and friendly manner.

• Learn Smartsheet’s project management software and take ownership of assigned projects. Aid in the evolution of usage of this platform by spearheading best practices adoption.

Qualifications:

•Minimum of 5–8 years of experience in Environmental Health and Safety management, preferably in an aerospace, aviation, or MRO environment.

•Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field preferred.

•Professional certifications such as CSP, CHMM, CSHO, or OSHA 30-hour certification preferred.

•Demonstrated experience with ITAR compliance and AS9100/9110 quality systems; AS9100/ISO9001 lead auditor experience preferred.

•In-depth knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, FAA, and applicable state safety and environmental regulations.

•Experience with incident investigation, risk assessment, and EHS management systems.
