Assistant Store Manager

The Assistant Store Manager plays a key leadership role in executing daily operations and supporting the store manager. This role is responsible for leading shifts, delegating tasks, coaching team members, and ensuring the Kuppa Joy experience is consistently delivered. The Assistant Store Manager helps maintain operational standards and creates a positive, high-performing team environment during each shift.
Assistant Store Managers model Kuppa Joy values and help drive excellence across all five operational pillars: Customer Service, Food & Drink Quality, Cleanliness, Teamwork, and Asset Protection.
This position is ideal for a dependable, hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is ready to grow into higher levels of leadership.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Responsibilities and essential job functions include, but are not limited to:
Customer Service & Hospitality
Lead by example to deliver exceptional customer service. Create meaningful customer interactions, set the tone for the shift, and coach team members to prioritize connection and engagement.
Food & Drink Quality
Ensure all beverages and food items meet Kuppa Joy standards by following recipes, presentation guidelines, and quality expectations. Support training and provide real-time coaching to maintain consistency.
Cleanliness
Maintain a clean, organized, and visually appealing café. Delegate and execute cleaning tasks throughout the shift and ensure both front and back of house meet company standards.
Teamwork
Lead the floor during assigned shifts by delegating tasks, maintaining flow, and supporting team performance. Provide clear, respectful, and timely coaching to develop team members and improve performance.
Asset Protection
Follow all company policies and procedures related to cash handling, safety, and security. Communicate operational needs, report issues, and support smooth day-to-day operations.

Experience & Eligibility Requirements
Internal Applicants
To be considered for the ASM role internally, candidates must:
  • Have a minimum of 6 months experience as a Kuppa Joy Barista
  • Be in good standing - no progressive discipline in the last 3 months.
  • Be consistently meeting or exceeding performance expectations
  • Demonstrate leadership maturity, reliability, and ownership of their current role
  • Be available to work a minimum of 25 hours per week and meet the business needs with one opening and one closing
  • Availability on Saturdays, weekends, and holidays as required

External Applicants
To be considered for the ASM role externally, candidates must:
  • Have prior leadership or supervisory experience
  • Demonstrate the ability to lead, coach, and hold others accountable
  • Show strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Be available to work a minimum of 25 hours per week and meet the business needs with one opening and one closing
  • Availability on Saturdays, weekends, and holidays as required

Coffee experience is preferred but not required.
Requirements
  • California Food Handler Certification (must obtain upon hire)
  • Completion of pre-employment assessments (sent via email)
  • Participation in a video interview as part of the hiring process
