Description
Crestwood, Inc., a manufacturer of custom cabinetry and wood products in Salina, Kansas, seeks a Department Manager with hands-on experience in finish applications across various wood species and manufacturing processes. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, and Organizational Production principles.
The Department Manager will oversee the Finish Division's production areas, managing 35-45 employees who work Four (4) 10-hour shifts Monday to Thursday, with additional hours on Fridays as needed. This role is responsible for coordinating schedules for Part-Time Regular, Full-Time Regular, and Summer/Seasonal staff.
The Finish Department Manager is responsible for maintaining high performance standards and ensuring on-time delivery of complete, high-quality cabinetry. This position provides leadership to improve quality and process reliability and to expand the range of finished applications.
Wage:        Commensurate with Experience + Performance
Incentive:   Eligible Biweekly Department

Hours:        40-50 / Week
RESPONSIBILITY:
Department Manager Goals
  •   Create a productive work environment that follows safety standards.
  •   Accountable for meeting quality, productivity, delivery, and safety goals.
  •   Set clear expectations for production areas and individual employees.
  •   Provide employees with the tools and training they need for success.
Execute the Daily Production Schedule
  •    Lead and manage employees and work areas to prepare, plan, and achieve daily quotas.
  •    Adjust employee assignments and priorities as needed to meet production schedules.
  •    Collaborate with other departments and Plant Managers to identify issues, communicate effectively, and achieve daily and weekly goals.
Continuously Improve the Team
  •   Train employees, encourage teamwork, and cross-training.
  •    Promote a continuous improvement mindset by identifying, communicating, and implementing process enhancements and waste reduction.
  •    Communicate process changes, updated standards, and expectations to employees and management.
  •    Observe, identify, document, and resolve problems.
Continuous Focus on Safety
  •    Conduct safety inspections in all Finish Department areas.
  •    Maintain ongoing cleanliness and organization within the Finish Department.
  •    Oversee hazardous waste management, ensure required certifications, and provide employee training.
  •    Monitor the Finish Department to ensure ongoing compliance with OSHA regulations.
REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS
  •    Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental standards.
  •    Build trust, communicate effectively, and hold employees and work groups accountable for following processes to achieve production goals.
  •    Ensure production groups remain on schedule and make priority or personnel adjustments as needed.
  •    Develop, lead, and coach work groups to maximize engagement and participation in achieving objectives.
  •    Woodworking and finish knowledge are a plus.
  •    Communicate effectively with all employees, both verbally and in writing.
  •    Hold individuals and teams accountable.
  •    Demonstrate a process-oriented approach.
  •    Be a self-starter who is well-organized and able to plan and execute tasks effectively.
  •    Willingness to learn all positions within the Finish Area.
