What are some typical daily responsibilities for professionals working in Process Piping?

In a Process Piping role, your daily responsibilities often include designing and drafting piping systems, reviewing project specifications, and selecting appropriate materials for various industrial applications. You'll regularly coordinate with other engineers and project stakeholders to ensure design compliance and resolve technical issues as they arise. Site visits for inspections, collaborating on project timelines, and updating documentation are also common aspects of the job. This dynamic mix of desk and field work ensures that no two days are exactly alike and provides opportunities to build both technical and collaborative skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Process Piping position, and why are they important?

To excel in Process Piping, you need a solid understanding of piping design principles, fluid dynamics, and industry codes such as ASME, typically supported by engineering or technical training. Familiarity with CAD software, pipe stress analysis programs, and professional certifications like the ASME B31.3 qualification are frequently required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective teamwork are vital soft skills for this field. These competencies are crucial to ensure safe, efficient, and code-compliant piping systems in complex industrial projects.

What is a Process Piping job?

A Process Piping job involves designing, fabricating, installing, and maintaining piping systems that transport fluids or gases in industrial facilities like power plants, refineries, and chemical plants. Unlike plumbing, which deals with water and waste in buildings, process piping is used for manufacturing processes and must meet specific industry codes. Professionals in this field work with materials like steel, copper, and specialized alloys to ensure safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance.

Consistently ranked among the nation's top firms, we take pride in solving complex challenges with forward-thinking solutions.
About Melbourne:
Our headquarters is located in Melbourne, Florida, a vibrant city on the Space Coast where high-tech innovation meets coastal living. Here, you'll work on dynamic, impactful projects while enjoying front-row views of rocket launches from our rooftop and quick access to some of Florida's most beautiful beaches. Just an hour from world-class attractions like Disney World and Universal Studios, Melbourne offers the perfect balance of career growth, family life, and fun, all in a warm subtropical climate with a relaxed, suburban feel.
Overview
As a Senior Process Piping Engineer, you will lead the design of piping systems for launch sites, test stands, and manufacturing, processing, and support facilities. This includes (but is not limited to) sizing tanks, compressors, pumps, pressure regulators, control valves, vaporizers, heat exchangers, filters and strainers, separators, knockout tanks, phase separators, accumulators, pressure relief devices, vent systems, and manifolds. It also includes selecting instrumentation such as pressure, temperature, flow, and level instruments, transmitters and switches, gauges, control valves and positioners, and associated control and shutdown devices. To be successful in this role, you must be able to translate Owner requirements into design reality and communicate the design through engineering drawings and specifications while following all pertinent codes and regulations. Critical thinking and analytical skills are a must. Teamwork and coordination with other disciplines is essential to a complete design.
On a typical day, you will work in CAD programs such as Revit and Inventor for 3D design. CAESAR II, AFT Arrow, and AFT Fathom are often used for analysis, along with Nastran and hand calculations. You will also support budget performance, manage team hours, work closely with Project Managers, and serve as the technical interface with clients, leading page turns, design reviews, and participating in client meetings.
If you're interested in this role but don't meet every preferred qualification, we still want to hear from you. We value relevant experience, strong fundamentals, and a willingness to learn. If you're looking to take your career to the next level, work with a talented team of professionals who love what they do, enjoy a flexible work schedule, and share in the profits of our 100 percent employee-owned firm, BRPH might be a great fit for you.
