Job description

Project

The Woodfibre LNG Project is located approximately 7 km west-southwest of Squamish, British Columbia. It includes the construction and operation of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility on the previous Woodfibre pulp mill site, which will have a storage capacity of 250,000 m3 and will produce approximately 2.1 million tons per year of LNG.

Woodfibre Management Ltd. is a privately held Canadian company based in Vancouver and a subsidiary of Pacific Energy Corporation Limited.

Position

The Process Engineering Manager is an integral part of Woodfibre LNG’s operations team. The Process Engineering Manager will work with a small team of multi-discipline engineers, supporting the plant Operations group through construction, commissioning, start-up and steady state, ensuring safe, reliable and sustainable production, thus meeting our offtaker’s requirements. The successful candidate reports directly to the Plant Manager and will play an essential part in supporting the company’s Operations team, Commercial team and external stakeholders through the construction and operating phases of the project.

Key Responsibilities:

The successful applicant will:

  • Provide leadership to a process support team, on Process Engineering, Process Control, Production Planning and Laboratory Services and Management System
  • Support the start-up of the plant, working with the plant Operations group in optimizing the commissioning and start-up schedule.
  • Manage Production Planning and Forecasting and provide support to the Marketing function.
  • Manage the plant feed gas demand and interface with the pipeline operator, Fortis BC.
  • Manage offtake of LNG cargoes and Condensate parcels and provide assurance on quantity and quality of those.
  • Set and manage daily, weekly, monthly plant mass balance and performance reports.
  • Set up and manage hydrocarbon accounting in conjunction with Finance and Commercial functions.
  • Prepare for and manage and report on process unit and equipment performance test runs.
  • Monitor and report on the performance of the plant process units and utility systems on a daily, weekly and monthly basis, with the objective to continuously improve on process safety, reliability and efficiency.
  • In conjunction with the Environment function, the lead on management of methane abatement, energy efficiency improvement and emissions management.
  • Support maximization of plant capacity through process simulation, calculations and reporting.
  • Be the owner of process safety management for the company. Lead and implement all process safety requirements. Provide process safety assurance to management and stakeholders.
  • Be the owner of the Woodfibre Management System for the company. Lead the initial set up and ongoing development of it.
  • Be the owner of Integrated Activity Planning for the company. Lead the initial set up and ongoing development of it.
  • Provide support to plant trip investigation/reporting and reliability improvement.
  • Set up an effective advanced control system for the early operations phase of the plant and enhance this with plant optimization functionalities in following years.
  • Be the owner of the process control domain security.
  • Continuously improve plant performance through initiation and follow through on Management of Change and lead the pre-FEED maturation of sustainable capital projects.
  • Lead the HAZOP and other process safety reviews where required. Ensure plant HAZOP remains current as per regulatory requirements
  • Provide day to day support for operations on production issues.
  • Analyze and report on plant and equipment performance and for cost & efficiency improvement.
  • Manage the plant laboratory and external laboratory service contractor, providing quality assurance for the LNG product and Condensate.
  • Provide adequate performance measurement and feedback for Process Engineering team members.
  • Set and communicate yearly tasks and targets for each person in the Process Engineering team.
  • Manage the process support team Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) and reporting.

HSSE:

  • Demonstrate a personal commitment to continuously improve personnel and process safety in the plant.
  • Champion process safety and manage the process safety systems.
  • Manage the implementation of an effective WLNG risk register and follow through with effective control of risk mitigation management.
  • Provide technical support to the Emergency Response Management team

Other:

  • Participate in audits as required by plant management.
  • Willingness to undertake both international and domestic travel for business.
  • Participate in short term domestic & international assignment if required during the construction, commissioning and start-up phases.
  • Available for call out during plant/production upsets.
  • Participate in competency assurance and training to further improve plant and personnel.

Requirements

Required Experience:

  • Minimum 15 years of proven process engineering competence in the Oil and Gas industry, LNG experience mandatory
  • Superior knowledge of and experience with commercial liquefaction technologies
  • Skilled in process simulation and unit performance monitoring
  • Demonstrated experience in supervision of a process engineering team, with a track record of talent development
  • Knowledge and experience of project interface requirements during construction and commissioning
  • Proven experience in production and support of an operating liquefaction plant
  • Proven experience in process safety management
  • Experienced in leading plant improvements processes and management.
  • Competent in HAZOP and other technical safety reviews
  • Experience in management of change systems
  • Experience in root cause analysis
  • Are willing to comply with WLNG's drug-free and harassment-free work environment and comply with all safety policies and procedures.
  • Undergo a pre-placement medical assessment of your fitness for duty, and Pre-Site Access testing for alcohol and specified drugs.
