Qualifications:
Requires extensive knowledge of machine shop practices usually acquired through extensive on the job training and experience
Journeyman (machining) or 8 years equivalent
High degree of mechanical aptitude and print reading skills
Ability to work independently and to manage one's time effectively
Knowledge/experience with other machines (lathe, mill, CNC set up/programming, surface grind, jig grind) is not required but is beneficial
Understanding of individual contribution to the product conformity and product safety
The importance of ethical behavior
 
Responsibilities:
The OD/ID Grinder is responsible for setting-up, operating and tending grinding
Grinding applications will span cylindrical grinding, ID grinding & specialized tool/spindle grinding
Planning and performing difficult grinding operations which require complicated setups or a high degree of accuracy
Determine proper feeds, speeds, tooling and operation sequence or select those prescribed in drawings, blueprints or layouts, using a variety of precision measuring instruments
Maintains a workable supply of perishable tools required in the operation of machinery
Assists at other machines in Manufacturing when needed
