The Produce Manager is responsible for ensuring fresh, abundant and varied procurement and presentation of produce are available at all times, emphasizing local, organic, and sustainable products. Other responsibilities include attainment of positive operating results in the Produce department market staffing, sales, inventory, shrink and margins. Ensures safe, efficient operating procedures, provides leadership, models a high level of both internal and external customer service at all times. Manages, supports and retains well-trained employees who provide excellent customer service.
Requirements
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (PRODUCE)
  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent education or experience.
  • 2+ years experience in a produce or food service environment with at least 1 year in a supervisory role.
  • 1+ year produce ordering experience preferred.
  • 1+ year experience and familiarity with natural and organic foods.
  • Proficiency in using email, MS Office products (or equivalent), web-based applications and POS systems.
  • Knowledge of organic food, farming, sustainability, health, and nutrition.
  • Ability to communicate with employees, co-workers, management staff and customers in a clear, professional and courteous manner which fosters a positive, enthusiastic and cooperative work environment.
  • Excellent leadership skills with demonstrated abilities to resolve problems and to understand and support the importance of structure, organization, policies and procedures.
  • Capacity to adapt readily based on evolving co-op needs or in response to feedback.
  • Ability to maintain composure in highly stressful or adverse situations.
  • Excellent organization skills; ability to multi-task and quickly reprioritize responsibilities
  • Must be detail-oriented, possess strong leadership skills and take initiative to complete tasks.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others in a team while being able to work independently without constant supervision and direction.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Must have flexible availability for early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays to align with store needs.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs from floor and overhead.
  • Pushing carts/u-boats in excess of 100lbs.
  • Ability to twist, turn, reach and perform repetitive motions.
  • Due to the structure of the facility, must be able to climb stairs multiple times per day (or use elevator).
  • Majority of time is spent on the sales floor for up to 8 hours, which requires physical activity (i.e., prolonged standing, walking, standing, crouching, bending, lifting) and exposure to hot and cold temperatures.
  • Fine motor skills required to operate computers, printers, scanners, and other office equipment.
