JOB TITLE: Process Technician

REPORTS TO: Production Shift Supervisor or Process Engineering Manager

FLSA: Non-exempt

JOB SUMMARY: Coordinate the process, methods and sequence for the production of injection molded plastic parts in Micro Mold Production or Small Mold Production. Provide support to production, design, toolroom and customers to ensure dimensionally accurate parts. Takes responsibility for the production of plastic parts that meet or exceed the expectation of the customer

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Ensure that the most efficient methods of processing for manufacture are used within the specification and constraints of the part.
  1. Optimize manufacturing efficiency by using knowledge of processes and production equipment capabilities, production methods and quality control standards.
  1. Trouble shoot in a logical, systematic manner. Perform minor maintenance on molds and machines. Make recommendation and problem solve to achieve outcomes desired by the company and the customer.
  1. Document mold performance on process log to maintain a history of the mold which includes problems, issues, recommendations and completed tasks.
  1. Establish and maintain processing parameters for conventional molds or micro molds that can be used as a reference on all shifts. Complete and follow the process reference sheets every time the mold runs
  1. Mentor and train new employees as assigned. Provide production support by example while mentoring and training new employees.
  1. Communicate production problems with management and attend appropriate meetings as necessary to help solve production issues or conditions that limit the efficient use of machines and tools.
  1. Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

1. Education/Experience. High school education coursework or GED required. Experience or training in manufacturing using quality systems Five years manufacturing experience in plastic injection molding with relevant knowledge of resins and plastic materials preferred.

  1. Computer Skills. Ability to operate personal computer, fax machine, copy machine and telephone required. Proven accuracy in keyboarding skills to enter data correctly and efficiently. Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word preferred.
  2. Language Skills. Proven reading and written communication skills required with the ability to comprehend, and interpret instructions and standards from manuals or other materials. Ability to effectively present information or training to employees, in one-on-one and small group situations.
  3. Mathematical Skills. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Knowledge of rate, ratios, percent and use of trigonometry. Ability to read and understand specification drawings complicated designs and drawings for inspection
  4. Reasoning Ability. Ability to interpret standards or guidelines and apply to actual variables required. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  5. Other Skills and Abilities. Willingness to attend conferences, classes or training to enhance and update knowledge and skills. Ability to work with various personnel in departments to reach consensus on work related issues. On occasion may be requested to travel for company business. Maybe requested to work overtime as dictated by production need. Must be able to maintain a professional relationship with fellow workers and the general public.
  6. Supervisory Responsibilities. None.
  7. Physical Demands. While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is frequently required to sit/stand and move throughout the facility. Uses hands to manipulate very small parts or tweezers. Sense of touch may be used to detect texture, burs and edges. Normal or corrected to normal vision is required with good color vision, close vision, and ability to use microscope and adjust focus. May be required to move or transport up to 55 lbs.
  8. Work Environment. The duties of this job are executed in a climate-controlled environment with few temperature or humidity extremes. Noise levels will vary from very low to moderate depending on the location that the work is performed within the facility. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Use of safety glasses is required.
