Your Role:

The Sr. Extrusion Engineer provides business unit-wide technical leadership for extrusion processes, driving innovation, operational efficiency, and product quality. This role combines hands-on process ownership with strategic guidance, supporting new product development, cost optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives. The engineer collaborates cross-functionally with R&D, Operations, Procurement, Quality, and Marketing to deliver advanced extrusion technologies aligned with business objectives.

You will have the opportunity to Make Great Things Happen!

  • Process Development & Optimization:
    • Design, develop, and implement extrusion processes to improve throughput, gauge control, material utilization and OEE.
    • Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis for process deviations and equipment issues.
    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean/Six Sigma methodologies.
    • Support Operations by providing technical guidance as a subject matter expert and creating Best Practices for BU-wide implementation
    • Suggests and leads capital investment projects delivering best-in-class extrusion capabilities and conversion costs.
  • New Product & Material Qualification:
    • Partner with R&D to scale up new materials and technologies (e.g., PCR, PFAS-free solutions).
    • Define trial plans, guide technicians, and analyze data to support commercialization utilizing Six-Sigma Methodologies (DOE, DFSS, etc)
    • Identify and lead projects to support and achieve Marketing Innovation, Material cost saving and Operational efficiency objectives.
  • Equipment & Tooling Management:
    • Evaluate extrusion equipment capabilities; recommend upgrades or modifications.
    • Design and refine tooling to meet product specifications and operational efficiency goals.
  • Documentation & Compliance:
    • Maintain SOPs, process parameters, and technical documentation.
    • Ensure compliance with quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Training & Leadership:
    • Mentor engineers and technicians; provide technical training on extrusionoperations.
    • Foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

We need you to have:

  • BS in Mechanical, Chemical, Polymer Engineering, or related field
  • 7+ years in extrusion engineering (blown film or multi-layer preferred).
  • Proven success in process optimization and new product introduction.
  • Deep knowledge of thermoplastics, die design, cooling systems, and extrusion machinery.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; proficiency in statistical analysis tools (e.g., Minitab).
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities.

Icing on the cake:

  • MS in Mechanical, Chemical, Polymer Engineering, or related field.
  • Six Sigma Green/Black Belt, Lean Manufacturing, Extrusion Technology.
