Job description

Job Overview:

The Production Engineer role acts as a technical resource for operations personnel, applying their skills to optimize plant operations, troubleshoot and resolve plant problems, and to implement plant improvement projects. This role also is responsible for managing plant change reviews, procedure creation and updates, and assists with facilitating daily plant/process/safety meetings.

Core Responsibilities:

● Understands broad process technology, equipment, and control technology; works with technical staff and plant operators to optimize operations to meet business and plant goals (environmental, health & safety, production, cost, quality, energy, reliability).

● Participates in advanced trouble shooting and coaches others to learn these skills; ensures findings are documented in plant operating discipline for future usage.

● Provides leadership and direction in the day-to-day decision making for the operating area of responsibility.

● Participates on and leads root cause investigations

● Collaborates with other engineers on site and within the business to leverage knowledge on plant operations

● Ensures operating discipline and document management system requirements are met and include appropriate MET (Most Effective Technology).

● Coaches employees on effective implementation and utilization of most effective technology.

● Implements best practices to optimize operations.

● Understands and applies skills and knowledge in statistical process control (SPC) to improve plant performance

● Works with plant process control roles to ensure process control is optimized in the facility.

● Communicates technical information to plant personnel and engineering/improvement team

● Works as a backup for, and shares after-hours call duty with Technical Advisor/GK/AC role

● Assists with writing plant safe work permits, hot work permits, and confined space permits

● Understands and applies High Reliability Organization (HRO) principles (deference to expertise, sensitivity to operations, reluctance to simplify, preoccupation with failure, and resilience)

● Provides Six Sigma Methodology and technical support to projects

Qualifications:

· B.S. in Engineering is required - Will consider a new grad as well

· Chemical Engineering degree is preferred. Will consider Mechanical and Electrical engineers too.

· Some experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.

· Process engineering experience is preferred
