Job Description

Process Engineers on the Process Engineering team are key partners for customers in the NorthAmerican market. They are creative technical leaders who support the successful sale, engineering,commissioning, and operation of complete system solutions. To deliver winning solutions, they applydeep technical knowledge of our solutions and technologies combined with an understanding of thecustomer’s process, the market, regulations, and our competitors to continually balance technical riskwith commercial viability.


On complex flow sheets with multiple unit processes, a Process Engineering Project Technical Leader - Microelectronics is included on theproject to own the overall solution for our customer in collaboration with one or more ProcessEngineers with expertise in the various technologies used in the flow sheet. A Process Engineering Project Technical Leader - Microelectronicsrequires the abilities and expertise of a Process Engineer, and the technical, leadership, andcommunication skills of an Engineering Project Manager. The Process Engineering Project Technical Leader - Microelectronics requires domainexpertise to act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and technical point of contact in customer and internalcommunications. From a technical perspective, they have responsibility for the overall treatmentsolution including strategizing on the creation of that solution (safety factors, flow fluctuations,assumptions), identifying and managing the impacts that any given unit process will have onupstream/downstream unit processes as well as process risks, and owning the overall process flow
diagram, accompanying flow and quality balance, and overall process guarantees. From a leadershipperspective, they proactively communicate across the team of Process Engineers, manage the processdeliverables (schedules, assignments), and represent Process Engineering in review meetings at the
bidding and engineering stages. If process issues arise, they lead the troubleshooting effort and
resolution.


As the focal point of the Process Team for projects, the Process Engineering Project Technical Leader - Microelectronics functions as a dual-path expert. Their time allocation is strategically divided into approximately 60% Communication,Organization, and Coordination, where they manage process deliverables, schedules, and cross-functional representation. The remaining approximately 40% is dedicated to Technical Expertise, actingas a Subject Matter Expert (SME) who owns the overall treatment solution, including process guaranteesand the troubleshooting of complex issues.


The Process Engineering Project Technical Leader - Microelectronics for the Microelectronics market will lead proposals and projects inexecution for our Microelectronics customers’ ultrapure water (UPW), wastewater, and reclaimtreatment needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:


Microelectronics Project Technical Leaders lead the process design of ultrapure, wastewater,and reclaim treatment solutions for the Microelectronics industry.


Responsibilities will include:



  • Align a team of Process Engineers working together on a flow sheet to a strategy (includinginfluent design basis, safety factors, handling of flow variations, how to meet the customer’sneeds, how to win against the competition), a list of deliverables, and a schedule, and ensurethat all process deliverables meet quality and schedule for the project

  • Lead the design of complete water, wastewater, or waste treatment solutions (flow sheet, unitprocesses, process parameters) that will meet the customer’s requirements for a given influentand required effluent stream qualities using various in house and industry design tools, acting asthe leader for a team of Process Engineers providing technical expertise on specific portions ofthe overall flowsheet.

  • Apply advanced treatment technologies including biological treatment, ammonia removal, solidsseparation, low- and high-pressure membrane treatment (ultrafiltration, nanofiltration, reverseosmosis - conventional and high-pH), ion exchange, UV treatment, and gas-transfer membraneprocesses to meet the stringent requirements specific to the microelectronics industry

  • Own the overall Process Flow Diagram (PFD), associated flow tables or mass balance, and overallprocess guarantees, including management of the interconnections between unit processes andconsideration of any impacts of one unit process on upstream or downstream unit processes,with input from the Process Engineers on the team.

  • Engage in piloting and benchmarking and treatability studies as part of design, commissioning,troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of UPW treatment solutions

  • Serve as a lead technical contact with our customers, building partnership relationships, andrepresenting the team of Process Engineers working on the flow sheet together

  • Serve as the lead technical contact with other functions working together on the project

  • Identify and support management of technical risks related to the treatment process (flowsheet, unit processes, achievement of outputs), including compiling the risks throughout theflow sheet in collaboration with the Process Engineers on the project team

  • Troubleshoot technical issues using data and observations

  • Understand relevant regulations and liaise with regulatory agencies as needed

  • Own and be accountable for the success of assigned projects throughout project developmentas measured by achieving treatment requirements (successful operation) and customersatisfaction through proactive communication, collaboration, and leadership of corrective actionmanagement, in collaboration with the team of Process Engineers on the project

  • Demonstrate Veolia’s expertise in the external market through customer and conferencepresentations

  • Provide training and 1:1 coaching to members of the Process Engineering team


Industry Leadership and Expertise:
A Process Engineering Project Technical Leader builds long-term relationships with customers and keyexperts in the industry and presents at industry conferences and technical forums to position Veolia asexperts within the microelectronics market. They serve as an expert within the business, participating ininnovation of solutions, technologies, and markets, and training and mentoring others in process design.

  • Ability to integrate multiple main unit operations (e.g. clarifier, MBR, RO, thermal) into a singleflow sheet with consideration of recycle streams, flow variations, and a range of influentqualities

  • Exceptionally strong oral and written communication skills in English for customer facingcommunication (including presentations) as well as internal collaboration and influence

Education and Experience:
Required:



  • Bachelor or advanced degree in an Engineering field – Environmental, Chemical, or Mechanicalpreferred, or other technical discipline with a combination of process design and hands-onmicroelectronics water and wastewater treatment system experience

  • 10+ years of related experience, preferably process engineering specific, with an emphasis inprocess design and/or operation of water, wastewater or waste treatment

  • Demonstrated experience with UPW, wastewater, and reclaim treatment processes and systemdesign/operation for the microelectronics industry

  • Leadership experience or demonstrated leadership competency to connect people, set andcommunicate a vision, align and inspire a team towards an objective, train/coach/mentorothers, and confidently make effective decisions with limited information under evolvingconditions
