Process Engineer

Baystar | Pasadena, TX

At Baystar, we're committed to creating a workplace where innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement drive success. Our values are more than words-they guide how we work, how we support one another, and how we create value for our customers and communities.

If you're passionate about solving complex problems, improving manufacturing performance, and making a measurable impact in a world-class petrochemical operation, we invite you to join our team as a Process Engineer.

Why Join Baystar?

As a Process Engineer, you will play a critical role in optimizing plant performance, leading continuous improvement initiatives, and supporting safe, reliable, and efficient operations. You'll work across Production, Maintenance, Reliability, Technical, and HSSE teams to solve challenges, drive operational excellence, and help shape the future of our facility.

Key Responsibilities

Process Engineering

  • Identify, define, and drive preventive and corrective actions that deliver sustainable improvements in safety, environmental performance, reliability, quality, and cost.
  • Lead project pre-studies and technical evaluations to support future improvement opportunities and capital investments.
  • Prepare engineering scope packages for implementation by frontline teams or for further development through the CAPEX organization.
  • Maintain current knowledge of process technologies, product specifications, engineering standards, and industry best practices.
  • Support Production and Maintenance teams with troubleshooting efforts by providing technical expertise, identifying performance gaps, and developing improvement opportunities.
  • Participate in Process Hazard Analyses (PHA) and Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP) to support the safe design and operation of plant facilities.
  • Support a 24-hour manufacturing operation, including occasional overtime as necessary to meet plant and business needs.

Performance Improvement

  • Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations for significant events (Severity Level 3 or higher) in partnership with Production, Maintenance, Technical, and HSSE teams.
  • Establish investigation teams, facilitate meetings, document findings, and ensure corrective actions are effectively implemented and sustained.
  • Collaborate with Reliability and Maintenance teams to investigate equipment performance issues and develop long-term improvement solutions.
  • Facilitate Level 2 Problem Solving activities to drive continuous improvement and prevent recurrence of operational issues.
  • Coordinate and execute production test runs, including planning, readiness reviews, data analysis, and results evaluation.

Risk and Change Management

  • Contribute to site loss control initiatives through field engagement, safety observations, hazard identification, and risk mitigation efforts.
  • Lead and coordinate Management of Change (MOC) processes to ensure modifications are executed safely, effectively, and in accordance with engineering standards and industry best practices.
  • Align MOC and RCA action plans across Production, Maintenance, Reliability, and Technical organizations to ensure successful implementation.

Collaboration and Leadership

  • Participate in daily unit production meetings to identify operational challenges, prioritize improvement opportunities, and drive action plans.
  • Monitor and follow up on operational excellence initiatives to ensure sustainable results.
  • Train, mentor, and coach site personnel on Operational Excellence (OPEX) principles, problem-solving methodologies, and continuous improvement tools.
  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
    • Other technical degrees may be considered depending on experience level.
  • 2-5+ years of engineering experience, preferably within manufacturing, petrochemical, refining, chemical processing, or related industrial environments.
  • Strong technical competence and process knowledge.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within cross-functional teams.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

What Makes You Successful

You are:

  • Driven for Excellence - Continuously seeking opportunities to improve processes, performance, and results.
  • Caring - Committed to protecting people, the environment, and supporting teammates.
  • Trustworthy - Dependable, accountable, and dedicated to doing the right thing.
  • Connected - Skilled at building relationships, collaborating across functions, and influencing positive change.

? A problem solver who enjoys identifying root causes and implementing lasting solutions.

? Comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment where safety, reliability, and operational excellence are top priorities.
