Job description

Process Engineer

At Nouryon, our global team takes positive action every day, to reach higher collectively and individually. We create innovative and sustainable solutions for our customers to answer society’s needs – today and in the future. We are looking for an experienced Process Engineer who enjoys combining hands‑on chemical manufacturing experience with process design, capital projects and continuous improvement. You will have the opportunity to take ownership of projects from concept through commissioning while making a visible impact on the performance and reliability of our Houston manufacturing site. Does that sound like you?

About the job As a Process Engineer, you will serve as a technical lead for process improvements and capital projects at our Houston site. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys spending time in the plant, collaborating with operators and other technical experts, and turning real manufacturing challenges into practical engineering solutions. Unlike a traditional day‑to‑day production engineering role, this position has a greater focus on medium‑ and long‑term improvements, process design and capital project execution.

In your future role as a Process Engineer you will
  • Lead process engineering activities for capital projects, including project development, justification, design, Process Safety Information, execution and commissioning.
  • Identify and lead process optimization and cost‑reduction opportunities while troubleshooting assigned manufacturing units.
  • Lead and participate in Process Safety Management activities, including Management of Change (MOC), Pre‑Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR), incident investigations, and hazard studies.
  • Develop practical engineering solutions by spending time in the field and collaborating closely with operators, maintenance, chemists, and other engineers.
  • Support process and equipment changes by developing documentation and training engineers, operators, and maintenance personnel.
  • Support site HSES, environmental and quality initiatives, including process troubleshooting, corrective actions, and continuous improvement.
We believe you bring
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • 5+ Years experience in Process or Production engineering in PSM regulated chemical manufacturing
  • Hands‑on experience in a manufacturing environment, with the ability to translate field experience into practical process designs and improvements.
  • Experience with process design, capital project development, and execution, process optimization and root cause problem solving.
  • Working knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) and experience participating in activities such as MOC, PSSR, PHA/hazard studies, or incident investigations.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively across operations, maintenance, engineering, and site leadership.
Great if you have
  • Experience with batch chemical processes in a PSM‑regulated facility.
  • Experience with project management/Stage‑Gate processes, equipment selection, and relevant engineering standards such as API and ASME.
  • Experience with root cause analysis methodologies such as 5 Why or Cause Mapping.

We believe you are

You are a hands‑on and collaborative engineer who enjoys spending time in the field and learning directly from the people closest to the process. You communicate effectively across different functions and are comfortable taking ownership of projects independently while knowing when to involve others. You are organized, curious and solutions‑oriented, with the ability to identify opportunities, turn ideas into practical improvements and see projects through to completion. The hiring manager particularly emphasized the importance of someone who can talk to operators and experienced site employees, gather information that may not yet be documented, and take ownership of a project through completion.

We offer you

At Nouryon, you will join an experienced and collaborative technical team where you will have the opportunity to make a visible impact on site performance. You will work alongside other engineers, a chemist and a laboratory supervisor, with support from an experienced manager who values development and practical problem solving. Our Houston site offers significant opportunities for process improvement, including projects where relatively straightforward engineering solutions can create meaningful operational and financial value. You will have ownership of your projects while receiving support from the broader engineering and site teams. You will also have the opportunity to further develop your Process Safety Management expertise and become qualified as a Nouryon Hazard Study Facilitator, with training provided by Nouryon.

This is a permanent position on a full‑time basis, reporting to the PQC Manager and based at our Houston, Texas manufacturing site.
