Job Description:
Mission
This project engineer position assists the project superintendent on heavy civil construction projects by performing construction planning, scheduling, cost control, procurement, and safety related tasks. The successful candidate will be detailed, self-motivated, and have strong problem-solving skills. This role ensures the success of projects and the organization.
Main Responsibilities
  • Assist the project superintendent with project operations, procurement, schedules, and cost management.
  • Prepare project submittals in accordance with project specification requirements including coordination of subcontractor submittals.
  • Collaborate with the project team to track project quantities, develop pay estimates, create cash forecast, and anticipated construction margins.
  • Promote and ensure a culture of safe work practices in accordance with Colaska' s policies and goal zero principles.
  • Develop direct reports such as interns or other administrative staff.
  • Travel and work at remote sites within Southeast Alaska communities may be required.
  • Must be able to work Saturdays and Sundays. Typical weekly work hours during busy season can meet or exceed 60 hours.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Experience & Qualifications
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to multitask.
  • Computer software knowledge of Primavera P6, MS Office, JDE, HCSS Heavy Job with preferred abilities in Trimble Business Center and HCSS Heavy Bid.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret plans, specifications, external and internal policies/guidelines/regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and effectively present information to large groups and interact with managers, clients, customers, and the public.
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering or related preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of progressively proven ability in the construction industry.
  • Experience with Alaska Department of Transportation or Western Federal Lands preferred.
  • Driver's License
  • CPR/First aid certification preferred.
  • MSHA certification.
  • OSHA 10-hour certification.

Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to pass drug screening and a PAT (physical abilities test).
  • Exert force of 20-50 pounds occasionally, 10-25 pounds frequently, or 10 pounds constantly.
