What are Process Engineer Interns?

Process Engineer Interns are students or recent graduates who work temporarily in engineering teams to support the design, optimization, and improvement of manufacturing processes. They typically assist with data collection, process analysis, troubleshooting, and the implementation of new technologies or procedures under the supervision of experienced engineers. This internship provides hands-on experience, helping interns apply classroom knowledge to real-world industrial challenges, and often serves as a pathway to a full-time engineering role.

Is $20 an hour good for an internship?

For a Process Engineer Intern, $20 an hour is generally considered competitive, especially for entry-level internships that may require basic engineering skills and knowledge of process improvement tools. Intern wages vary by industry, location, and company, but this rate aligns with average internship pay in technical fields. Factors such as workload, learning opportunities, and potential for future employment should also be considered when evaluating compensation.

What does a process engineering intern do?

A process engineering intern assists in analyzing, designing, and optimizing manufacturing or production processes. They often collect data, run experiments, and use tools like CAD or process simulation software under supervision to improve efficiency and safety. The role provides hands-on experience in process improvement and engineering principles.

Is a 3.4 GPA good for internships?

For a Process Engineer Intern position, a 3.4 GPA is generally considered acceptable, especially if complemented by relevant coursework, technical skills, and internship or project experience. Many employers value practical skills and problem-solving abilities alongside GPA when evaluating candidates for internships.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Process Engineer Intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Process Engineer Intern, you need a solid grounding in chemical, mechanical, or industrial engineering principles, often backed by enrollment in a relevant bachelor's degree program. Familiarity with process simulation software (such as Aspen Plus or AutoCAD), data analysis tools, and safety regulations is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and attention to detail help interns excel in team environments and tackle process challenges. These skills and qualifications are crucial for optimizing manufacturing processes, ensuring safety, and supporting project goals.

What are the big 4 internships?

The 'Big 4' internships typically refer to summer internship programs at the four largest professional services firms: Deloitte, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), Ernst & Young (EY), and KPMG. These internships offer experience in consulting, audit, tax, and advisory services, often serving as a pathway to full-time employment in accounting and consulting roles for process engineer interns interested in related fields.

What types of projects and responsibilities can a Process Engineer Intern expect during their internship?

As a Process Engineer Intern, you can anticipate working on a variety of hands-on projects that support process optimization, quality improvement, and efficiency initiatives within manufacturing or production environments. Typical responsibilities may include assisting with data collection and analysis, participating in process mapping, supporting root-cause investigations, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams such as production, quality assurance, and maintenance. Interns often have opportunities to present their findings and contribute to real-world solutions, providing valuable exposure to daily operations and the chance to develop technical and teamwork skills essential for career advancement.

Job description

Description:Get Hands-On. Get Real Experience. Build What Moves The World.

Who We Are

At Belt Power LLC, we donโ€™t just move materials โ€” we keep entire industries moving. As a full-service distributor and fabricator, we design, build, and service conveyor system solutions for manufacturing, processing, and material handling customers nationwide. Our culture is hands-on, fast-paced, and rooted in problem-solving, innovation, and teamwork.

If youโ€™re looking for an internship where youโ€™ll do more than observe โ€” this is it.

What you'll do

As an Engineering Intern, youโ€™ll work side-by-side with our Product Engineering team on real projects that matter. This is not a desk-only internship โ€” youโ€™ll be in the lab, on the shop floor, and collaborating across teams.

Youโ€™ll gain experience in:

  • Material validation testing (tensile, adhesion, elongation, modulus)
  • Collecting and analyzing test data using Excel
  • Preparing technical reports and validation documentation
  • Supporting product development and R&D initiatives
  • Assisting with CNC cutting operations for sample prep (training provided)
  • Helping design and validate tools and gauges, including 3D printed fixtures
  • Supporting small equipment builds and process improvement projects
  • Researching and sourcing materials for new product development
  • Collaborating with Engineering, Production, Quality, and Sales teams

Every day is different โ€” and every project helps you build real engineering experience.

Requirements:
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelorโ€™s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering
  • Basic 3D modeling experience (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Mechanical aptitude and comfort working in a hands-on manufacturing environment
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work safely around equipment

Bonus Points If You Have:

  • Experience with lab testing, shop equipment, or 3D printing
  • A curiosity-driven mindset and desire to learn quickly
  • A proactive, reliable, and team-oriented attitude

Work Environment

This role blends office, lab, and shop-floor work. Youโ€™ll be around machinery and equipment โ€” proper PPE is required and provided. Expect an active environment where your work has a visible impact.

Why This Internship Rocks

  • Real, hands-on engineering experience
  • Exposure to manufacturing, testing, and product development
  • Mentorship from experienced engineers
  • Resume-building projects you can talk about in interviews
  • Potential opportunity to continue part-time during the school year
