Job description

Our employee-owned, multi-disciplined engineering and design team is seeking a Professional Electrical Engineer to lead the design of complex electrical systems for commercial, institutional, and industrial facilities from our Bloomington, Minnesota office.

In this role, you will collaborate with electrical, mechanical, civil, structural, and architectural professionals on diverse facility projects across industrial, education, government, municipal, aviation, mining, and rail markets. You will help deliver practical, innovative designs for projects ranging from educational buildings to municipal wastewater facilities.

As a Project Engineer, you will manage electrical design work from concept through construction, developing safe, reliable, and efficient systems that meet client needs and code requirements. You will also support construction administration by responding to contractor questions, reviewing shop drawings, and observing work for compliance with project documents.

Flexible work arrangement: 3 days in office, 2 days WFH
Location: Preferably Bloomington, MN, but Milwaukee, Downers Grove, Seattle, or Duluth also work.

What we're looking for:
  • Bachelorโ€™s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in the State of Minnesota or the ability to obtain registration within twelve to eighteen months of employment.
  • Minimum of four years of progressive experience in power, lighting, and signal system design for government, educational and industrial facilities.
  • Previous experience with basic layout and design of electrical distribution equipment including panel boards, transformers, lighting, fire alarm, security, and data systems.
  • Solid working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and the Minnesota State Building Code (including Minnesota Energy Code / ASHRAE 90.1)
  • High proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD is required.
  • Familiarity with electrical calculation tools such as SKM PowerTools, ETAP, LightStanza, or Visual Lighting
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, and Excel).
  • Basic experience/knowledge with coordinate design layouts seamlessly with architects, mechanical engineers, and structural engineers.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to participate in discussions during project team meetings and client consultations.
  • Ability to travel as needed (up to 10%) for team meetings, client consultations, and site inspections/visits. Occasional overnight travel may be required.
Nice to have:
  • Design low to medium-voltage power distribution systems for industrial processes and campus facilities.
  • Previous experience with industrial power system designs for motor and process equipment control including motor control full voltage, soft start, and variable frequency drives.
  • Previous experience with business development responsibilities; scoping electrical design for proposals, fee estimates for electrical design, and interview participation.
  • Demonstrated interest in growing into project management responsibilities, including project planning, coordination, client communication, budgeting, and team leadership.

$92,000 - $130,000 a year

The listed salary range reflects only the starting base pay range for candidates with 4-12 years of related experience in our MInneapolis, Minnesota office. Compensation may vary based on experience, qualifications, and responsibilities. Individuals with great years of experience or compensation expectations are encouraged to apply.
