Job description

Overview:

This role will be reported to the Process Engineering Operation Manager. The primary role of Process Engineer is participation in developing operation and performance standards. Development and ongoing implementation of manufacturing processes and equipment that best utilize available labor, materials, and production time for manufacturing operations. Focus on safety throughout the facility while being consistent with process operations, methods and efficiencies. The main duties include implementing, supporting, and monitoring the processes, updating current methods, and conducting risk assessments. Under limited supervision, this roll will manage the documentation, design where applicable and support the correct execution of the manufacturing processes related with large parts and assemblies from composite materials.

Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to all safety procedures and PPE requirements
  • Support efforts in the development of SPC, LEAN, 6S, CI or other improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain the ERP system data related to process inputs, outputs, flows, part numbers and assemblies
  • Improving the efficiency of the resin blending process
  • Improving the efficiency of the Order Preparation processes
  • Utilize and develop good statistical methods where possible
  • Develop new processes and improve existing products and processes.
  • Drive improvements, quality and costs to meet or exceed customer requirements.
  • Implement design changes to improve quality, performance, cost reduction, and standardization through analysis of designs and problem-solving techniques.
  • Maintain timely and effective communication with supervisors and peers through various avenues such as e-mails, monthly reports, and engineering reports.
  • Works closely with other engineers and technical specialists to increase functional knowledge.
  • Coach and mentor other team members to develop strong technical expertise in all areas.
  • Implement lean manufacturing principles where appropriate, Yield/Variance support.
  • Technical resource for Production, Quality, and Maintenance departments.
  • Develops and maintains documentation and records such as work instructions, data recording forms databases, etc.
  • Performs shop floor duties to maximize position effectiveness.
  • Assist in the disposition of defects, SDR control, Repair plans, and Corrective Actions support.
  • Determines root cause of Production issues using analytical problem-solving skills and tools.
  • Process qualifications for new tools, products, and materials, MPP Qualifications Support
  • CAD/CAM/CNC programming/troubleshooting including advanced composite manufacturing processes a bonus
  • Provides input on the need for budget-related items i.e., equipment, tools, etc.
  • Assist with other duties or responsibilities as may be assigned.

TRAINING / QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Hold a technical degree or diploma specializing in mechanical, electrical or chemical engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 5 years of relevant experience within a machine shop or other manufacturing environments
  • Ability to effectively and creatively solve problems, propose conceptual solutions, and characterize/quantify potential risks
  • Knowledge of statistical methods including 6-Sigma techniques
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing Principles
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to work well in cross-functional teams
  • Possess a proactive work style with the proven ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize and meet deadlines while maintaining a commitment to a high level of accuracy and quality in all aspects of work
  • Thorough knowledge of and experience with Microsoft office products, AutoCAD, and SolidWorks
  • Co-ordination of other RS staff and possible outside contractors associated with process improvement may be required

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Industrial production environment
  • Hot & humid areas within the plant
  • Physically demanding tasks
  • Interaction with heavy machinery, moving equipment and limited movement of chemicals within the production area
  • Occasional travel to other RS Facilities; foreign and domestic, customer or supplier sites may be required
