Job description

We are seeking a candidate to fill the position of Senior Civil Engineer.  This will be a key position in our firm, which requires civil site engineering skills along with communication and interpersonal skills necessary to work with clients.  The ideal candidate would have the desire to build and lead a civil department to support new and existing clients.  Ownership opportunities may exist in the future for the right candidate.

Education and registration:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
  • Michigan PE license or ability to obtain one via comity is required

Experience and skills:

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience with a variety of project types.
  • Strong knowledge of civil engineering and documentation,
  • Experience researching standards and regulations and incorporating them into technical documents.
  • Experience working with zoning administrators and planning commissions for the completion of site plan review processes.
  • Experience in independently designing storm and sanitary sewer, water supply, onsite wastewater treatment plants, and roadways.
  • Experience and knowledge of the production of construction drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to successfully prioritize work, manage multiple projects, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to mentor and motivate other, less experienced team members.
  • Experience communicating professionally to people both internally and externally within all levels of the organization(s) they represent, including participation in preparing proposals and participating in interviews.
  • Experience in MicroStation and AutoCAD is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook required and Teams.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Plan and design site development projects, including site layout, grading, stormwater management and utilities.
  • Work with architects, designers, MEP and structural engineers, consultants, contractors, authorities having jurisdiction, and other members of a project team.
  • Develop reports and preliminary concepts and full design phase deliverables including drawings, specifications, cost estimates, quantity take-offs, technical reports, narratives, and permit applications.
  • Preparation of calculations and analyses for stormwater management systems, sanitary sewer, water supply and distribution, and roadway design.
  • Attend public meetings when required.  Consult with regulatory agencies when necessary.
  • Prepare engineering proposals.  Provide input on anticipated complexity, budget, and hours needed to complete work to help generate proposals for new work.
  • Establish project delivery teams, coordinating in-house and consultant services.
  • Ensure the team achieves project schedules and budgets.
  • Perform site visits in an outdoor work environment which may include exposure to outside weather conditions, varying temperatures, excessive noise, walking on uneven ground, and/or potential hazards.
  • Serve the client’s best interest and maintain positive relationships.  Understand what it takes to make projects successful.
