JOB TITLE: Process Engineer

DEPARTMENT: Process Engineering

REPORTS TO: Process Engineering Manager

CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

SALARY GRADE/LEVEL/RANGE: Salary


SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE: Responsible for evaluating existing processes and configuring manufacturing systems to reduce cost, improve sustainability and develop best practices within the production process.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • Document all processes by product to ensure predictability and repeatability.
  • Perform continuous improvement analysis of both the equipment and processes.
  • Develop plans and documentation for upcoming production and trial runs.
  • Develop and maintain all standards documentation including running conditions, troubleshooting guidelines, visual standards and process documentation.
  • Write and train all process personnel on improvements in new and existing procedures.
  • Recommend and participate in decisions regarding equipment upgrades, improvements and necessary capital expenditures.
  • Participate and provide support for all new product and manufacturing trials to include development of operating plan, training of line personnel, set up and run documentation and trial result analysis.
  • Participate in reject analysis, customer complaints and material review board activities as required.
  • Participate and assist in coordination and completion of weekly production plan activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering or polymer science.


EXPERIENCE:

  • 5 plus years of manufacturing experience in a plastics processing environment
  • Extrusion background, in particular, sheet extrusion and laminating running multiple lines
  • Experience with working and/or managing in a TQM and ISO 9000 environment.
  • Line supervisory experience a plus
  • Union and contract negotiating a plus
  • Hands on quality control
