Job description


Louisiana Bridge Builders (“LBB”) is designing and building the new I-10 Calcasieu River Bridge in Lake Charles, Louisiana (USA) for the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LADOTD). LBB will also be responsible for the reconstruction of interstate highway, various structures, ramps, and approaches for a 5.5 mile stretch between I-210 West End and Ryan Street.

Position Purpose/Summary

The Quality Control Intern supports Louisiana Bridge Builders by assisting with field quality control activities, including inspections, documentation, testing support, and reporting. This role provides hands-on experience in ensuring construction activities meet project specifications and quality requirements.


Under the guidance of the Quality team, the intern assists in inspection processes, material verification, and maintenance of quality records while gaining exposure to Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), nonconformance tracking, and quality reporting.

This position is based in Lake Charles, LA.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Participate in the preparation of Project Quality Management System documents.
  2. Ensure quality documentation and required records for the Project are accurate and up to date.
  3. Assist in field verification activities for materials and works performed using the company’s tracking software.
  4. Assist in ensuring that quality requirements are implemented by subcontractors.
  5. Compile comprehensive reports detailing quality performance, highlighting trends, and suggesting corrective actions and lessons learn.
  6. Collaborate in the digitalization of quality records.
  7. Conduct training activities on the quality management system for the project team.
  8. Participate in audits carried out on the Project Quality Management System.
  9. Oversee and perform site inspections and enforcement of standards
  10. Monitor, verify and generate daily reports on the progress and performance of contractor activities.
  11. Maintaining an active role in providing relevant information to continually improve procedures, Work Plans, and QC efforts.
  12. Performing the off‐site quality inspections at the Owners/suppliers/manufacturer’s yard/shop as needed.
  13. Participating in the analysis of corrective and preventive actions and, in general, identifying and recording any incidents related to the Quality Plans and Quality Procedures.
  14. Reporting quality issues associated with the construction and track deficiencies/non‐conformances.
  15. Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Knowledge, Abilities, & Skills for Success
  1. Ability to communicate effectively in a positive and professional manner, both written and verbal.
  2. Basic understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and field activities (preferred).
  3. Ability to use computer programs such as Microsoft Office and learn quality tracking systems.
  4. Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accurate documentation and records.
  5. Ability to work as part of a team while demonstrating initiative and willingness to learn.
  6. Ability to stay organized and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  7. Ability to adapt to changing conditions and follow direction from supervisors.
  8. Ability to work in both office and field environments, including outdoor jobsite conditions.
  9. Demonstrates accountability, curiosity, and a strong commitment to safety and quality.
Qualifications

At a minimum, the Quality Control Intern should be currently pursuing a degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, with an interest in heavy civil construction and quality control processes. Prior internship or field experience is preferred but not required. The ideal candidate demonstrates a willingness to learn, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work in both office and field environments. Basic computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office, are expected, along with the ability to learn new systems and processes. Must also have a valid driver’s license.
