Position Description

The Process Engineer plays a key role in advancing Applied Medical’s manufacturing capabilities by developing, optimizing, and supporting innovative automated and electronic systems used in medical device production. This onsite engineering role focuses on process optimization, troubleshooting, and crossfunctional collaboration to improve manufacturing efficiency, reduce costs, and support scalable production. Working closely with mechanical and electrical engineers, production teams, and quality partners, the group process development engineer contributes to cuttingedge medical device manufacturing through handson engineering, datadriven improvement, and technical documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot manufacturing systems and electronic equipment by diagnosing root causes, resolving technical issues, and minimizing production downtime.
  • Develop and improve manufacturing processes by identifying opportunities for efficiency gains, cost reduction, and enhanced product quality.
  • Design and optimize mechanical systems, electronic systems and circuits to support reliable operation of automated and semiautomated manufacturing equipment.
  • Document engineering activities and results by maintaining accurate records of designs, modifications, testing outcomes, and performance analyses.
  • Collaborate with crossfunctional engineering teams across mechanical engineering, production, and quality to ensure cohesive system performance.
  • Support process validation and optimization efforts through data collection, analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Apply structured problemsolving methodologies to address technical challenges in a fastpaced manufacturing environment.

Position Requirements

This position requires the following skills and attributes:

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, including a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science, software engineering, biomedical engineering, industrial engineering, mechanical engineering or manufacturing engineering
  • Demonstrate proficiency in reading electrical schematics, including experience with electronic design automation tools such as Altium.
  • Use spreadsheets, scheduling programs, and word processing software effectively for engineering documentation and reporting.
  • Apply working knowledge of electronic circuits and systemlevel troubleshooting techniques.
  • Collaborate effectively in crossfunctional teams within manufacturing and engineering environments.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally through strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exhibit technical aptitude and attention to detail in handson engineering and manufacturing settings.
  • Operate electronic laboratory equipment safely and effectively in support of testing and troubleshooting activities.

Preferred

The following skills and attributes are preferred:

  • Engineering experience gained through internships or cooperative education programs.
  • Completion of engineering capstone projects related to electronic systems or medical devices.
  • Working knowledge of printed circuit board assembly manufacturing and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with statistical process control methods and datadriven manufacturing improvement.
  • Technical writing experience involving engineering documentation or reports.
  • Understanding of manufacturing and quality standards, including regulatory expectations governed by the Food and Drug Administration and International Organization for Standardization quality systems.
