Job description

Accounting Clerk II Payroll Specialist

American Stone is hiring a full-time Accounting Clerk II to support payroll processing, accounts payable, and day-to-day accounting operations.

Pay: $18 to $24 per hour

This role involves full payroll processing, tax reporting (Forms 940/941), W-2s, 1099s, and advanced Excel work for reporting and analysis.

This is not an entry-level position. This role is ideal for someone with 35 years of hands-on accounting experience, particularly in payroll processing, tax reporting, and financial reporting.

This is a primarily on-site position based in Murray, UT. Candidates must be local and available to work in-office.

Responsibilities

  • Process payroll, including tax compliance (Forms 940, 941, W-2, 1099), deductions, garnishments, and state and federal withholdings
  • Prepare and maintain government and compliance reports (payroll taxes, IFTA, sales tax, MSHA, new hire reporting)
  • Perform and review bank and credit card reconciliations, inventory tracking, and cost reporting
  • Process accounts payable, including invoices, freight charges, vendor payments, and purchase orders using Odoo
  • Enter production and commission data for quarry and sales employees
  • Process inter-company billing and transactions
  • Maintain DOT compliance documentation, including driver files and logs
  • Communicate with vendors and internal teams to ensure accurate and timely accounting records
  • Assist with onboarding paperwork, mail handling, and maintaining compliance records

Qualifications

Required:

  • Candidates must be willing to provide professional references during the hiring process
  • Associate or bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of 35 years of hands-on accounting experience
  • Proven experience handling payroll processing and tax filings (Forms 940/941), W-2s, and 1099s
  • Experience using accounting or ERP systems (Odoo, QuickBooks, Peachtree, or similar)
  • Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP or XLOOKUP, and intermediate to advanced formulas
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to manage multiple tasks

Preferred:

  • Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Spanish is a plus

Monday to Friday. 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (schedule may vary slightly based on business needs)
