Job description

Mead & Hunt, a nationally recognized leader with over a century of engineering excellence, is seeking a highly motivated, experienced Wastewater Process Engineer to join our growing Greenhouse Gas Reduction Engineering Team in our West Allis, WI office.

At Mead & Hunt, we are a multi-disciplinary firm where employees have the opportunity to work on impactful, technically challenging projects. Our GHGR team partners with municipalities, state agencies, and Fortune 100 companies to deliver design-bid-build, design-build, and engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) projects nationwide. The GHGR team helps clients meet sustainability and environmental goals through the planning, process design, and implementation of industrial and municipal wastewater treatment systems, waste-to-renewable energy systems, anaerobic digestion facilities, and resource recovery projects.

This role will offer the opportunity to deliver technical design and problem-solving services to our clients, addressing challenges in wastewater treatment and helping to drive the development of innovative and advanced solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and perform process mechanical design of industrial wastewater treatment and waste-to-renewable energy facilities.
  • Develop and oversee process calculations, equipment sizing and selection, P&IDs, process mechanical drawings, technical specifications, and functional descriptions.
  • Review process equipment vendor information, shop drawings, and contractor submittals.
  • Develop deliverables related to treatment process evaluations, feasibility studies, process modeling and calculations, and preparation of technical reports.
  • Perform technical review of engineering deliverables completed by junior staff
  • Support project development and proposals, including scope development and labor budget estimates
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary internal teams, including business development, project managers, and discipline leads
  • Maintain awareness of new and emerging wastewater treatment technologies and their potential application on client projects
  • Perform engineering services during construction and assist in the planning and execution of on-site startup, commissioning, performance testing, and troubleshooting activities
  • Assist the estimating team with project cost estimate development
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to project teams and junior staff
  • Ability and willingness to travel approximately 10-20%
The successful candidate must have all of the following
  • A bachelor's degree (or higher) in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field from an accredited college or university

AND

  • At least 6 years of progressively relevant experience in industrial wastewater treatment or related process engineering. Candidates with greater levels of experience are encouraged to apply and may be considered for a commensurate level based on qualifications.
The ideal candidate will have experience with any/all of the following Wastewater Process Engineering Experience
  • Industrial wastewater treatment process design, preferably within the food and beverage industry
  • Knowledge of process design and technologies for aerobic and anaerobic biological treatment systems, physical treatment systems, chemical treatment system, pH adjustment systems, biogas treatment and utilization systems, and renewable natural gas (RNG) systems
  • Process equipment selection and specification
  • Development of process mechanical plans, drawings, and specifications
  • Technology evaluation, specification, and selection
Project Delivery Experience
  • Delivering projects across multiple phases, including conceptual/preliminary design, detailed design, engineering services during construction, and startup, commissioning, and performance testing.
  • Assisting in the development of project capital and operating cost estimates
  • Experience with EPC, design-build, or alternative project delivery methods is a plus.
Project Development Experience
  • Feasibility studies, treatment process evaluations, and technology evaluations
  • Developing scopes of work, proposals, and labor budgets
  • Developing technical reports and engineering recommendations
Leadership & Collaboration Experience
  • Mentoring, training, and providing technical guidance to junior staff
  • Performing technical review and quality control reviews of engineering deliverables
  • Working effectively within multidisciplinary project teams
  • Coordinating with clients, vendors, contractors, and internal project teams
Professional Skills & Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage deadlines, and thrive in a fast-paced environment with quick-moving projects
