Job description

FP Movement is seeking and Assistant Colorist!  The Assistant Colorist plays a vital role in ensuring the FP Movement color vision is executed accurately and efficiently from concept to production. Reporting directly to the Color Designer, you will be the organizational backbone of the color approval process. Your primary focus will be managing the high volume of lab dips, organizing seasonal color submits, and maintaining clear, consistent communication across cross-functional teams to keep the development calendar on track.

About FP Movement

FP Movement is a highly spirited, performance-ready activewear brand that bridges the gap between wellness, fitness, and fashion. Rooted in the Free People aesthetic, our collections are designed to move with our customer. We are looking for a highly organized and detail-driven Assistant Colorist to support our color team, acting as the operational anchor for our seasonal color execution.

  • Submit Organization & Library Management:
    • Log, date, and organize all incoming seasonal lab dips, knit-downs, strike-offs, and trim submits immediately upon arrival.

    • Maintain and meticulously organize the physical FP Movement color library and seasonal color standard archives.

    • Prepare and distribute physical seasonal color rings and standard swatches to internal Design, Print & Pattern, and Merchandising teams.

    • Keep digital PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) systems updated daily with the latest color codes, names, and approval statuses.

  • Lab Dip Approval Process:

    • Assist the Color Designer in evaluating lab dips and trims against physical standards under standard lightbox conditions.

    • Draft and input clear, actionable color comments (e.g., "too red, needs to be bluer," "too light, deepen by 10%") into PLM systems for vendor communication.

    • Maintain robust tracking charts to monitor the status of all color submits, proactively flagging late or problematic dips to the Color Designer and Production team.

  • Cross-Functional Communication:

    • Act as a reliable point of contact for the Production and Design teams regarding the status of color approvals and missing standards.

    • Communicate directly with overseas vendors and mills to request resubmits, clarify color comments, and ensure deadlines are met.

    • Partner with the Print & Pattern team to ensure solid ground colors align perfectly with the seasonal printed artworks.

  • Concept & Design Support:

    • Assist the Color Designer in building physical color presentation boards for seasonal kickoff and milestone meetings.

    • Help pull initial swatches (Pantone, CSI, or vintage references) during the early stages of palette development.

  • Experience: 1–2 years of experience or a strong internship in color or textile product development.

  • Technical Color Skills: Excellent color perception and a strong eye for detail. Must be able to pass a Farnsworth-Munsell 100 Hue Color Vision Test.

  • Organizational Mastery: Highly system-driven with the ability to manage hundreds of physical and digital submits simultaneously without losing track of details.

  • Experience in evaluating lab dips, making color comments, managing samples and/or vendor communication a plus.
  • Systems Proficiency: Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop) and familiarity with PLM or similar product tracking software.

  • Soft Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while maintaining a positive attitude.
