Job description

Job Summary
Annually, MedSchoolCoach assists more than a thousand pre-medical and medical students in their journeys to become successful medical school and residency applicants. Drawing on our first hand experience as physicians, we understand the challenges of both the medical school and residency application processes, and leverage our expertise to support students. If you love mentoring students, this could be a perfect opportunity for you. We are especially interested in physicians who are retired and want to stay active with medical education or those who are no longer practicing clinical medicine full time and can devote 20+ hours a week to our students.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate directly with pre-medical applicants who are applying to medical school
  • Collaborate directly with medical students who are applying to residency (if applicable)
  • Conduct one-on-one advising sessions with students, offering comprehensive advice and coaching, and written communication to support their academic and professional development
  • In conjunction with a writing advisor, work with students on brainstorming and editing personal statements, activities, and essay editing
  • Assist in the creation of medical school list creation
  • Facilitate mock interviews with constructive feedback to enhance candidates readiness and performance
  • Participate in webinars, write blogs, or participate in other outreach activities (if applicable)

Qualifications

  • Attended a US Medical School
  • MD or DO Physician
  • Previous medical school admissions and/or residency experience
  • Previous mentorship of students/residents
  • Highly available to students (20+ hours per week)
  • Knowledge of the medical school admissions process
  • Ability to use Microsoft word, Zoom, Gmail, Google Meet, and mobile applications for communication
  • Retired and part time clinical-practicing physicians highly encouraged to apply

Preferred Clinical Backgrounds (not required):

  • Dermatology
  • Psychiatry
  • Neurology
  • Radiology
  • Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R)
  • Obstetrics & Gynecology (OB/GYN)
  • General Surgery
  • Emergency Medicine
