What is the difference between Procedural Sedation vs Anesthesiologist?
| Aspect | Procedural Sedation | Anesthesiologist |
|---|---|---|
| Credentials | Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) or Physician Assistant with sedation training | Medical degree, anesthesia residency, board certification |
| Work Environment | Outpatient clinics, emergency rooms, dental offices, endoscopy centers | Hospitals, surgical centers, complex procedures |
| Role | Administers sedation for minor to moderate procedures | Provides comprehensive anesthesia care, manages airway, monitors vital signs |
Procedural Sedation involves administering sedatives to relax patients during procedures, often performed by trained nurses or physician assistants. Anesthesiologists are medical doctors who provide full anesthesia care, including airway management and deeper sedation. While both roles focus on patient comfort, anesthesiologists handle more complex cases requiring advanced anesthesia expertise.
