Description

The Teaching Assistant partners with the Certified Teacher in the planning and implementation of daily activities in the pre-K classroom, adhering to Head Start Performance Standards, NYS Office of Children and Family Services Day Care Regulations and all other applicable program regulations. Working in a team environment, the Teaching Assistant will participate in weekly planning sessions, attend training and meetings as required, ensure a safe and healthy classroom environment, assist in classroom, and program modifications and help with inventory as needed.  

Teaching Assistants work 37.5 hours per week, following the school year calendar. 

Summary of Job Duties

  • Make ongoing observations of children’s development and maintain anecdotal records.
  • Ensure implementation of the developed lessons plans and learning objectives as assigned by the teacher.
  • Assist Lead Teacher in utilizing the Teaching Strategies GOLD child outcomes Assessment Tool at each of the three checkpoints.

 

Ideal Skills

  • Strong organizational and basic math skills.
  • Communication and language skills to comprehend documents and other correspondence.
  • Strong computer skills with basic knowledge of Excel Microsoft office and other office equipment such as copier, scanner, fax, etc.
  • Ability to interact with customers from a variety of backgrounds and with different levels of management.

Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent with 3-5 years related work experience. The Teaching Assistant position prefers a Child Development Associate (CDA).

The ideal candidate must have a driver’s license, meeting agency standards and consistent, reliable transportation that will allow regular travel in and around the service area.
