Job description

Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Sunnyvale, CA

Job Description:

Design & Engineering

  • Design mechanical tools, jigs, and fixtures for the disassembly and processing of electronics for recycling, using Autodesk Inventor and Vault as the primary CAD/PDM platform (experience with SolidWorks, Pro-E/Creo, Fusion 360, or similar platforms is transferable and welcomed)
  • Create detailed part and assembly models, drawings, BOMs, and revision-controlled documentation
  • Develop design concepts through prototyping, iterating based on test data and operator feedback
  • Apply DFM/DFA principles to ensure tools are durable, cost-effective, and manufacturable
  • Design with adaptability in mind, ensuring tools function reliably across different facility layouts, equipment, and site-specific conditions at both company-owned and partner locations
  • Facilitate and coordinate design change initiatives, and develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) where required

Hands-On Testing & Validation

  • Build, fit, and physically test prototype tools and jigs in lab and operational recycling environments
  • Conduct the implementation of fixtures and tooling activities, ensuring completion of all measurement system analysis (MSA) qualification requirements per applicable standards
  • Work directly with recycling operations staff to validate tools under real-world disassembly conditions
  • Support tool commissioning, training, and troubleshooting during deployment at both company-owned facilities and partner recycling sites

Qualifications / Requirements

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Engineering Technology, or equivalent hands-on experience
  • Minimum of [5–10] years of experience in mechanical engineering, tool/jig design, or manufacturing/production operations
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling and 2D drawing creation; direct experience with Autodesk Inventor and Vault strongly preferred (experience with SolidWorks, Pro-E/Creo, or similar platforms is transferable)
  • Demonstrated experience designing and building tools, jigs, or fixtures
  • Experience with PLM/document/collaboration systems (e.g., Team Center, SharePoint, SAP, or Vault) preferred
  • Familiarity with using AI agents/tools for daily tasks, reporting, and documentation workflows
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and coordinate across teams and stakeholders
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to bridge technical and non-technical audiences effectively
  • Flexibility to support varied project types and travel to different facility sites (company-owned and partner) as needed
