What You'll Do
As a Diesel Mechanic A, you'll perform advanced diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance on Waste Pro's fleet of heavy-duty refuse and support vehicles. You'll work on a wide variety of industry-leading equipment, including:
  • Mack, Peterbilt, Freightliner, and Autocar trucks
  • Heil and McNeilus refuse bodies
  • Diesel, Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), and hybrid-powered vehicles

This role requires strong troubleshooting skills, a commitment to safety, and the ability to keep our fleet operating at peak performance.
Responsibilities
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair diesel engines, transmissions, drivetrains, brakes, steering, suspension, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, fuel systems, and emissions components.
  • Perform preventive maintenance services, DOT inspections, and scheduled fleet maintenance to ensure vehicle safety and reliability.
  • Utilize OEM diagnostic software, onboard computer systems, and specialized diagnostic tools to identify and resolve mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Complete repairs in accordance with manufacturer specifications, factory service manuals, and company quality standards.
  • Perform welding, fabrication, and other metal repairs as needed.
  • Mentor and support apprentice and junior technicians by sharing technical knowledge and best practices.
  • Accurately complete repair orders, inspections, and maintenance documentation in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while properly caring for company tools and equipment.
  • Follow all OSHA regulations, environmental requirements, and Waste Pro safety policies and procedures.
  • Work closely with the Maintenance Supervisor and operations team to maximize fleet uptime and minimize equipment downtime.
  • Respond to road calls and emergency repairs as needed to keep vehicles operating safely and efficiently.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor to support the needs of the maintenance department and overall operation.

Qualifications We're looking for candidates who have:
  • 3-5+ years of heavy-duty diesel repair experience
  • Advanced diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience repairing Class 8 trucks and heavy equipment
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, electrical systems, hydraulics, brakes, suspension, steering, drivetrains, and emissions systems
  • Welding and fabrication experience (preferred)
  • Basic computer skills for diagnostics and repair documentation
  • A strong commitment to safety and OSHA compliance
  • The ability to obtain seven ASE Certifications (or equivalent) within 36 months

CDL Requirement CDL Class B preferred; Candidates without CDL must be able to obtain one within company guidelines
