Job Description

The State-Certified Security Guard Instructor is responsible for delivering State Department of Public Safety (DPS)-approved security guard training to applicants seeking an Arizona unarmed security guard registration (Guard Card). The instructor ensures all training complies with Arizona Revised Statutes and DPS requirements while maintaining accurate training records and verifying student competency before signing training documentation. Only instructors registered with Arizona DPS may provide this required training

Pay Rate: $22.00 an hour

Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00AM-5:00PM; Occasional Saturdays

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct Arizona DPS-approved 8-hour unarmed security guard training.
  • Teach required curriculum topics, including:
    • Orientation
    • Criminal law
    • Uniform standards
    • Communications
    • Use of force
    • General security procedures
    • Crime scene awareness
    • Ethics and professionalism
    • First response and emergency procedures
  • Maintain a safe, professional, and engaging learning environment.
  • Evaluate student participation and comprehension.
  • Complete and sign official Arizona DPS training verification forms for qualified students.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, training, and certification records.
  • Stay current with Arizona DPS regulations and legislative updates affecting security guard licensing.
  • Coordinate with agency management and the designated Qualifying Party regarding instructor authorization and compliance.
  • Promote professionalism, ethical conduct, and legal compliance throughout all instruction.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Current Arizona DPS General Security Guard Instructor Certification.
  • Minimum 21 years of age.
  • U.S. citizen or legal resident authorized to work in the United States.
  • Meet all eligibility requirements established under Arizona law, including criminal history standards and other instructor qualifications.
  • Strong knowledge of Arizona security guard laws and regulations.
  • Excellent verbal communication and classroom presentation skills.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records.
  • Proficient with classroom technology and training materials.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in private security, law enforcement, military, or corrections.
  • Experience teaching adult learners.
  • CPR, First Aid, or emergency response certifications.

Physical Requirements:

  • Stand and instruct for extended periods.
  • Demonstrate defensive tactics or security procedures when required.
  • Lift training equipment weighing up to approximately 25 pounds.
  • Travel to training locations as needed.

  • Thorough understanding of Arizona security laws and DPS licensing requirements.
  • Effective classroom management.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
