Private Rbt information

What is a private RBT?

Private RBTs, or Registered Behavior Technicians, are professionals who provide applied behavior analysis (ABA) services in private settings, such as clients' homes or private clinics, rather than in schools or public organizations. They are certified paraprofessionals who work under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) to help individuals, often children with autism, develop positive behaviors and life skills. Private RBTs implement individualized behavior intervention plans, collect data on client progress, and communicate with families to ensure consistency and effectiveness in therapy. Working privately allows for tailored, flexible support that meets the unique needs of each client.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a private Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), and why are they important?

To excel as a Private RBT, you need a solid understanding of applied behavior analysis (ABA) principles, a high school diploma or higher, and RBT certification. Familiarity with data collection tools, ABA software, and session documentation systems is typically required. Strong communication, patience, and adaptability set outstanding RBTs apart when working with clients and families. These skills ensure effective therapy implementation, accurate progress tracking, and supportive client relationships in private settings.

What are some common challenges private Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) face when working in home settings, and how can they prepare for them?

Private RBTs often work independently in clients’ homes, which can present unique challenges such as adapting to varying environments, limited immediate supervision, and needing to establish rapport with families. To prepare, RBTs should develop strong communication skills, practice flexibility, and maintain regular contact with supervising Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) for guidance. Staying organized and documenting session data thoroughly are also crucial for effective service delivery and professional growth.

What is the difference between Private Rbt vs Registered Behavior Technician (RBT)?

Job description

Director of Learner Services (BCBA)Autism 360
Full-time | In-person
Gastonia, NC
Base salary: $100,000–$130,000 including up to $10,000 annual performance bonus

Autism 360 is North Carolina’s largest privately held autism services provider. We are seeking an experienced, compassionate BCBA to join our Hickory clinic as a Director of Learner Services.

This is a meaningful clinical leadership opportunity for someone who wants to grow their career while helping learners, families, and team members thrive. You will have defined caseload expectations, practical operational support, and protected time to focus on supervision, programming, mentorship, and quality care—not just administrative tasks.

We believe sustainable leadership requires clear expectations, a supportive team, flexibility when life changes, and an environment where your expertise is respected.

Compensation
  • Base salary
2 years or less as BCBA: $100, 000-$110,000 including bonus
2 years or more as BCBA: $110,000–$130,000 including bonus

  • Annual performance bonus of up to $10,000, paid quarterly and tied to clear performance metrics

What You’ll Do
  • Lead clinical quality, treatment outcomes, and ABA programming for your assigned caseload

  • Provide a minimum of 25 supervision hours per week

  • Supervise, mentor, and coach RBTs to support ethical, effective, and sustainable ABA delivery

  • Develop and oversee individualized treatment plans using data-driven clinical decision-making

  • Build collaborative, trusting relationships with families and support them throughout their learner’s care

  • Establish and uphold supervision standards, documentation expectations, and clinical best practices

  • Partner with clinic operations on staffing, RBT retention, onboarding, and team support

  • Create a positive, accountable, and encouraging clinic culture

  • Develop future clinical leaders through thoughtful mentorship, feedback, and professional development

Why Join Autism 360?

We have listened to BCBA feedback and strengthened the systems that make a real difference in day-to-day work.

  • Defined caseload caps: Structured to protect clinical quality, support work-life balance, and help prevent burnout

  • Operational partnership: Dedicated support for scheduling, HR, billing, staffing, and other administrative responsibilities

  • Protected clinical leadership time: More time to focus on supervision, clinical programming, learner outcomes, and team development

  • Stronger RBT hiring and training: Higher hiring standards, improved onboarding, and enhanced training resources

  • Clear clinical/admin separation: Infrastructure that helps keep administrative workload from falling solely on the BCBA

  • Leadership growth: Opportunities to strengthen your clinical leadership skills while making a visible impact within your clinic

  • Local stability: A privately held, North Carolina-focused provider with infrastructure designed to navigate NC Medicaid and HB 696 changes without constant care-model shifts

Qualifications
  • Active BCBA certification required

  • Licensed in North Carolina or willing to obtain licensure

  • Previous leadership, supervision, or mentorship experience preferred

  • Strong clinical judgment and commitment to ethical, data-driven ABA practice

  • Ability to lead with both accountability and empathy

  • Strong communication skills with families, RBTs, and interdisciplinary partners

  • Ability to work full-time, in person, at our Hickory clinic

Benefits
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance

  • Paid parental leave

  • Paid time off and paid holidays

  • 401(k)

  • CEU support

  • Leadership development opportunities

  • A collaborative, supportive team culture built around sustainable careers and high-quality care
