What is a private home caregiver?

Private home caregivers are individuals who provide personal care and assistance to clients in their own homes. They help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, meal preparation, medication reminders, and sometimes light housekeeping. Their goal is to support clients' independence and quality of life while ensuring their safety and comfort. Private home caregivers may work independently or be employed by home care agencies.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a private home caregiver, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Private Home Caregiver, you need a solid understanding of personal care, basic health monitoring, and often a high school diploma or equivalent, with CPR/First Aid certification preferred. Familiarity with mobility aids, medication management systems, and basic household equipment is typically required. Compassion, patience, and strong communication skills help caregivers build trust and effectively support clients' emotional and physical well-being. These abilities are essential for delivering safe, respectful, and attentive care in a client's home environment.

What are some common challenges faced by private home caregivers, and how can they be managed?

Private home caregivers often face challenges such as adapting to varying client needs, managing time efficiently between caregiving tasks and household duties, and navigating emotional stress that can arise from providing close personal care. Building strong communication with the client and their family, setting clear boundaries, and seeking support from respite services or caregiver communities can help manage these challenges. Additionally, staying organized and regularly updating care plans ensures that the caregiver can provide high-quality, personalized support while maintaining their own well-being.

Job description

Job Title: In-Home Caregiver (CNA/PCA) – Private Pay & VA Clients | Metro Atlanta

Job Type: Part-Time / Full-Time | W-2 Employee

Location: Serving 11 counties across Metro Atlanta, GA

About OPA Home Care

OPA Home Care is a Georgia-licensed Private Home Care Provider (PCHP) serving private pay and VA Community Care Network clients across 11 counties. We are not a registry. You work as a W-2 employee with a structured schedule, a real clinical team behind you, and an organization that has covered thousands of shifts without a miss.

We are growing — and we are selective.

What You'll Do

  • Provide personal care assistance (bathing, grooming, dressing, mobility support)
  • Medication reminders and health observation reporting
  • Light housekeeping, meal preparation, and companionship
  • Transportation to appointments as assigned
  • Document care activities accurately in our system of record (AxisCare)
  • Communicate promptly with the scheduling and clinical team on any client changes

What We Require

  • Active Georgia CNA certification or demonstrated PCA experience (minimum 1 year)
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Smartphone capable of running care management apps
  • Ability to pass criminal background check and drug screen
  • Availability for consistent, recurring shifts (we do not operate as on-call only)
  • Professional communication — phone and text responsiveness is non-negotiable

VA clients: Must be willing to complete VA CCN credentialing requirements upon offer.

What You Get

  • W-2 employment — no 1099, no agency fee deductions
  • Competitive hourly pay (discussed at interview based on experience and availability)
  • Consistent scheduling — we match you to clients, not random daily dispatch
  • Clinical oversight from a licensed RN — you are never operating without backup
  • An organization that takes shift coverage seriously and holds itself accountable

Who Thrives Here

You show up. You document. You communicate. You treat clients with dignity and the job with professionalism. If you are looking for a flexible gig with no accountability, this is the wrong company. If you want a stable care position with a team that operates with discipline, apply.

To Apply

Submit your application through ZipRecruiter. Qualified candidates will be contacted within 48 hours for a brief phone screen. Have your certification number or employment history ready.

OPA Home Care LLC is an equal opportunity employer. Georgia PCHP licensed.
