What is private debt?

Private debt refers to loans and credit provided to companies or projects by non-bank lenders, such as private investment funds, rather than traditional banks. These loans are typically not traded on public markets and are often used by small to mid-sized companies that may not have access to traditional financing. Private debt can include direct lending, mezzanine financing, and distressed debt, among others. Investors are attracted to private debt for its potential to generate higher yields compared to public fixed income, though it comes with higher risk and lower liquidity.

Private equity jobs are highly competitive and typically require strong financial analysis skills, relevant experience in investment banking or consulting, and a solid educational background such as an MBA. Candidates often face rigorous interview processes and must demonstrate a deep understanding of deal structuring and valuation. Networking and internships can improve chances of entry into this field.
