Privacy Product Manager information

What is a privacy product manager?

Privacy Product Managers are professionals who oversee the development and maintenance of products and services to ensure they comply with privacy laws and best practices. They work closely with engineering, legal, and compliance teams to embed privacy by design into products, assess privacy risks, and implement controls to protect user data. Their responsibilities also include keeping up-to-date with evolving regulations and educating stakeholders on privacy requirements.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a privacy product manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Privacy Product Manager, you need a solid understanding of data privacy laws and regulations, product management experience, and a background in technology or computer science. Familiarity with compliance tools, privacy management platforms, and certifications such as CIPP or CIPM are often required. Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills help you advocate for privacy requirements and drive cross-functional collaboration. These skills are crucial to ensure products are designed with privacy by default, protecting user data and maintaining organizational trust and compliance.

How does a privacy product manager typically collaborate with engineering and legal teams to ensure product compliance?

A Privacy Product Manager plays a central role in bridging the gap between engineering and legal teams. They work closely with engineers to implement privacy features and ensure data protection standards are integrated into the product's design and development lifecycle. Simultaneously, they coordinate with legal and compliance teams to interpret regulations like GDPR or CCPA, translating them into actionable product requirements. This cross-functional collaboration is essential for aligning technical solutions with legal obligations, maintaining user trust, and avoiding regulatory pitfalls.

Job description

Principal Product Manager, Platform Orchestration and Developer APIs

Alianza's Intelligent Communications Fabric gives service providers a path to modernize voice networks and deliver AI-infused experiences on top of them. Both depend on the same underlying capability: making a live carrier network safely programmable, whether the change is initiated by an operator managing thousands of subscribers or by an external partner building a new experience.

This role owns that capability. It covers the configuration and change orchestration tooling operators use to extract, manipulate, and update their environments at scale, and the API surface that lets Experience Providers build on the platform. The two are the same problem at different distances from the network, and this role holds the point of view across both.

The person in this role will bring structure and a well-informed position to a space where much of it does not exist yet, working in close partnership with engineering, legal, and the commercial team.

Key Responsibilities

Configuration and Change Orchestration (near-term focus)

  • Own the go-forward product strategy for Alianza's configuration and change orchestration toolset, shaping how its capabilities are packaged and delivered within the platform.
  • Translate a broad existing capability set into a prioritized roadmap driven by real Alianza customer use cases, distinguishing vendor-stated capability from Alianza-validated value at each step.
  • Resolve overlap and sequencing questions with existing internal tooling that covers adjacent ground, particularly in professional services migrations and configuration extraction.
  • Define how this tooling supports the broader platform story, including its role as an OSS/BSS change-velocity layer and any tactical bridging value while longer-term platform capabilities mature.
  • Partner with commercial and Advantage program stakeholders on packaging and pricing.

Experience Provider API Surface

  • Own the Experience Provider API surface: the integration contracts partners build against, the partner onboarding and lifecycle APIs, and new partner-facing APIs as the Experience Provider program expands.
  • As the partner platform matures, lead the definition of the consent and authorization model for partner integrations, covering how end-user and account-level consent is captured, stored, and enforced when a third party operates on network data.
  • Work with engineering to evaluate build, partner, and license options where existing or third-party capability can accelerate delivery of the partner API surface.

Cross-Functional and Organizational

  • Partner closely with engineering leadership on technical feasibility and sequencing across both areas.
  • Coordinate with legal on consent, data privacy, and IP questions.
  • Contribute to and improve the frameworks the broader product team uses for partner enablement.
  • Represent this portfolio in external partner and developer conversations.

Qualifications

Required

  • 7+ years of product management experience, including meaningful time owning API-first or platform products.
  • Experience taking an inherited or newly integrated product through a productization or build-vs-buy-vs-integrate decision.
  • Demonstrated experience defining and shipping partner or developer-facing APIs.
  • Comfortable operating with ambiguity and building structure (roadmaps, frameworks, pipelines) where it does not yet exist.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, particularly with engineering, legal, and commercial teams.

Preferred

  • Background in UCaaS, CPaaS, or other large-scale distributed cloud communications platforms.
  • Experience with consent, privacy, or authorization and policy enforcement systems.
  • Experience integrating a product following a merger or acquisition.
  • Prior experience at a startup or scale-up building platform or partner-facing products.

Working Model

This is a flexible position, open to candidates in the United States. The role requires periodic travel to Alianza headquarters and to key partner sites as needed for integration work and Experience Partner engagements.
