What is a privacy analyst?

Privacy Analysts are professionals responsible for ensuring that an organization complies with privacy laws and regulations. They assess how personal data is collected, stored, used, and shared, and work to identify and mitigate privacy risks. Privacy Analysts also develop and implement privacy policies, conduct privacy impact assessments, and provide training to staff on data protection best practices. Their work helps organizations safeguard sensitive information and maintain the trust of customers and stakeholders.

What does a privacy analyst do?

As a privacy analyst, you assess business policies, procedures, and operations to ensure your company or organization meets privacy requirements and government regulations for the protection of critical information. Your duties in this career not only include analysis but also creating strategies for improvement. Your responsibilities may involve providing training or educational materials for employees so they can better manage privacy protection and mitigate risks related to the unauthorized access of sensitive information. You may focus on general operations of a business or organization, or you could focus on privacy as it relates to specific projects.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a privacy analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Privacy Analyst, you need a strong understanding of data protection laws, risk assessment, and privacy frameworks, often backed by a degree in information security, law, or a related field. Familiarity with tools like data mapping software, compliance management systems, and certifications such as CIPP or CIPM is highly beneficial. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help navigate complex privacy issues and liaise with stakeholders. These skills are essential to ensure organizations comply with privacy regulations and effectively safeguard sensitive information.

How does a privacy analyst typically collaborate with other departments to ensure compliance with data protection regulations?

Privacy Analysts regularly work with teams such as IT, Legal, HR, and Compliance to identify, assess, and mitigate data privacy risks across the organization. They often lead or participate in cross-functional meetings to review data handling practices, update privacy policies, and conduct impact assessments for new projects. Effective communication and relationship-building skills are essential, as Privacy Analysts must translate complex regulatory requirements into practical guidance for non-technical staff. This collaborative approach helps ensure that data protection measures are consistently applied and that the organization remains compliant with relevant laws.

Job description

Know where you belong!
Match Group is a leading provider of dating products across the globe. Our portfolio includes Tinder, Hinge, Match, Meetic, PlentyOfFish, OkCupid, The League, HER, and others, each designed to spark meaningful connections for singles worldwide. Creating a sense of belonging doesn't stop at our products - it's the foundation of every team we hire.

When it comes to dating, the connection starts online, but the real magic happens once you meet in real life (IRL).  We think the same is true for creating the best platforms, so we work together IRL 3 days/week.

We're looking for a Privacy Analyst based in New York to join our global Privacy Team.

This role is focused on privacy-by-design: partnering closely with product, engineering, trust & safety, and Legal stakeholders to help embed privacy into the development of some of the world's most recognized consumer dating apps, with a particular focus on Hinge.

You'll play an ownership role in triaging, tracking, conducting, and documenting complex privacy reviews, including privacy-by-design reviews (PbDs), data protection impact assessments (DPIAs), and legitimate interest assessments (LIAs) - all helping to ensure that innovative features and initiatives are developed responsibly and in compliance with global privacy laws.

Drawing on your privacy knowledge, you'll help translate complex regulatory requirements- including GDPR, CCPA, PIPEDA, and emerging global requirements related to privacy, cybersecurity, and AI-into clear, practical guidance for cross-functional teams.

You'll also have the autonomy to develop and improve playbooks and processes to maximize efficiency without sacrificing quality.

How you'll make an impact:
  • Partner with product managers, engineers, data scientists, and legal colleagues to coordinate reviews of new products, features, and data uses to identify and flag risks early in the development lifecycle.

  • Conduct and document privacy assessments as required under global privacy laws.

  • Build or improve scalable processes, templates, and tools that support efficient and consistent intake, coordination, and review.

  • Help translate complex legal and regulatory requirements into practical, product-focused guidance.

  • Stay current on global privacy developments and help apply new requirements to existing features and workflows.

  • Support the implementation of Match Group's global privacy program and contribute to portfolio-wide privacy governance initiatives.

  • Support audits and assessments of privacy practices in collaboration with cross-functional partners.

We may be a Match if you:
  • Have a background in privacy, law, public policy, or a related field
  • Have experience supporting PIAs, DPIAs, LIAs, and/or product privacy reviews
  • Enjoy identifying areas that could benefit from greater efficiency or clarity, and developing or improving processes to do so.
  • Understand how digital products work (e.g., data flows, APIs, SDKs, AI/ML use cases)
  • Are comfortable working closely with technical and product teams
  • Have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail
  • Are an effective communicator who can help translate legal concepts into clear, actionable guidance
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and can manage multiple priorities
  • Are a self-starter who takes initiative in moving privacy reviews forward, exercising sound judgment on when to seek guidance and escalate issues
  • Are digitally literate, preferably with proficiency in Google Workspace
  • Are comfortable with and interested in applying AI tools in your everyday work, such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and Zoom AI Companion, to automate repetitive tasks and improve output quality - such as in drafting documents, generating structured outputs, and improving workflows
  • Are committed to continuous learning and development
What's the team like?
  • On this close-knit global team, you will have the opportunity to work both collaboratively and independently on exciting privacy challenges.
  • Individuals on this team manage multiple projects simultaneously, are autonomous and self-motivated team players with a keen interest in privacy, possess superior communication skills, collaborate effectively with stakeholders, and have excellent project management skills.
  • A successful Privacy Analyst will be trusted to approach their work methodically, managing multiple demands while aiming for continuous improvement.
$120,000 - $140,000 a year
Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations may influence base pay offered.
This salary range is reflective of New York, NY. For all other locations, this salary may be subject to a geographic adjustment (according to a specific city and state), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
