Yard Supervisor
About Proficient Auto Logistics
Proficient Auto Logistics (PAL) is a leading specialized freight company focused on providing auto transportation and logistics services. Formed via IPO in May 2024, PAL combined five industry-leading operating companies and has since acquired a seventh. As a combined entity, we operate one of the largest auto transportation fleets in North America with over 1200 trucks, 50 terminal locations and 700 employees, a majority of whom are drivers.
We offer a broad range of auto transportation and logistics services, primarily focused on transporting finished vehicles from automotive production facilities, marine ports of entry, or regional rail yards to auto dealerships around the country. We have developed a differentiated business model due to our scale, breadth of geographic coverage, and embedded customer relationships with leading auto original equipment manufacturing companies (OEMs).
Job Summary
  • The Yard Supervisor is responsible to manage day to day activities with yard inventory and Drivers entering and exiting the Portland, OR property. This individual assists in the daily management of the terminal, consistent with the goals and initiatives of the Company. Reports to the Terminal Manager.
Responsibilities:
  • Monitor employee compliance with DOT/OSHA regulations and company quality and safety requirements and take immediate, corrective action when deviations occur
  • Observe Drivers for Safety amp; Proper Loading Procedures
  • Document and immediately notify Dispatch when maintenance or safety issues that could cause serious injury or damage are present
  • Because this position is front line driver facing, this individual would be responsible for following Supervisory responsibilities of Reasonable Suspicion protocol to ensure any unsafe drivers are immediately and temporarily relieved from work, pending complete investigation.
  • Ensure loads comply with space requirements and are secured properly following customer guidelines and requirements
  • Provide hands-on supervision of employee work assignments to ensure maximum, quality productivity
  • Prepare inventory for loading; build loads, print loads in a timely manner
  • Perform daily and weekly yard audits to verify inventory
  • Perform routine driver safety audits
  • Ensure damage procedures are followed and notifications are submitted in a timely manner to all necessary parties.
  • Shuttle drivers to location of vehicle
  • Enforce yard rules, policies and procedures.
  • Input and update drivers ETA's as given
  • Address inventory issues based on priority and status
  • Use GPS system to track Drivers
  • Reconcile hold units with system report
  • Maintain supplies and notify management when reorder is necessary.

Required Physical Abilities, Experience and Education:

  • Physical agility to include, but may not be limited to, walking, standing, sitting, bending, stooping, squatting, reaching, lifting โ€“ up to 50 pounds, pushing, pulling, stretching and balancing
  • Visual acuity, including but may not be limited to, close up and distance, peripheral sight, ability to discern color
  • Work effectively in an environment with potential loud noise, extreme heat or cold
  • Manual dexterity
  • Ability to work around fumes and petroleum products
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Management experience in the auto transport industry preferred
  • Must be able to work weekends when necessary.
  • Must be able to climb/no fear of heights and work in all types of weather.
  • Some dispatch experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of computers and software to include Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Excellent management, supervisory and leadership skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to effectively manage time and priorities
  • Effective oral and written communication
