Job description

Us Heart and Vascular is in need of a Medical Assistant to join Memorial Cardiology Associates in Houston TX.

Responsibilities:

  • Takes patient vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate, weight, etc.)
  • Verifies and inputs patient medications into EMR. Making changes and additions as needed to the medication list.
  • Responsible for EKG, rhythm strip, and signal average EKG hook-ups and printouts. (Proficiency Required)
  • Assist physicians with patient exams as needed.
  • Responsible for Holter monitor hook-ups and removals, event recorders and Loop recorders. (Proficiency Required)
  • Ability to perform stress tests as needed and to assist in test interpretation.
  • Takes pharmacy phone calls, reviews charts, and calls in prescription refills.
  • Monitors pharmacy samples, removing them from stock as expired.
  • Receives and returns phone calls from patients and other external sources. Receives and returns portal messages in the EMR.
  • Maintains current CPR and Medical Assistant certification.
  • Actively demonstrates teamwork at all times.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • May also be responsible for insurance precertification, prior authorization, procedure/surgery scheduling and coordinating transfers and admissions.
  • May be required to move between locations as needed.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or Texas accredited GED
  • 1 year of Medical Assistant experience, or recent graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant training program with completion of program externship.
  • Current Medical Assistant certification or must obtain within 90 days of hire date.
  • Current BCLS certification.
  • Must have experience in administration of EKG’s.
  • Cardiology practice experience preferred but not required.
  • Fluently speaks, reads, and writes English.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
