Job description

Shipping Specialist

­­­­Department:

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Job Status: Full Time

Reports To:

Positions Supervised: None

Summary/Objective:

The Shipping Specialist will be responsible for picking orders, repackaging material, quality control, printing labels, checking accuracy of orders and preparing shipments to be shipped.   

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Organizes, prioritizes, and processes LTL shipments for the facility. This includes setting up carries, printing pick lists, preparing shipping documents (labels, packing list, and bill of lading), and verifying LTL rate accuracy.
  • Processes shipping related paperwork and ensure accuracy and appropriate timing of confirmations.
  • Assists team as needed in daily warehouse management duties.
  • Assists the team in cycle counting, inventory identification/location, and general management and organization of the shipping area.
  • Drives a forklift on an as needed basis to provide backup and additional capacity to the shipping department.
  • Prepares orders for shipment, including loading, organizing, and wrapping orders, ensuring accuracy and quality package.
  • Handles receivables.
  • Pulls parts for shipments as required.
  • Packages products as required.
  • Obtains weight and dimensions of product being shipped.
  • Uses carrier websites to arrange for pickup and/or delivery of product.
  • Maintains accurate inventory.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Strong computer skills
  • Ability to determine freight costs
  • Basic understanding of railway, dock, and warehouse procedures
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Understanding of hazardous materials regulations
  • Finished goods and raw material product knowledge
  • Organized and process driven. Able to stay ahead of shipping deadlines and customer expectations
  • Reliable means of transportation required
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and/or inventory software to maintain records, input data, and create reports
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • State motor vehicle operators permit for operation of forklift highly preferred.
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to traverse distribution warehouse and access a variety of storage spaces and shelving units by stretching, squatting, and reaching.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and temperatures in the warehouse and on the loading dock.
