  • Job Title: Machine Operator
  • Department: Bindery
  • Location: Rochester Tech Park, 2332 Innovation Way, Bldg 4, Rochester, NY 14624 **Must have reliable transportation**
  • Schedule: Full-time, B Shift, 2:30pm - 11;00 pm, MONDAY - FRIDAY
  • Pay: $19 - $28 per hour. Final compensation is based on experience.
    • B Shift - Plus, receive an additional $0.50 per hour shift differential.
  • Job Summary: The Bindery Machine Operator role is responsible for setting up and running various bindery equipment to produce high-quality printed materials, ensuring efficient operation and meeting production goals. This role requires a blend of technical skill, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain and troubleshoot equipment.
  • Reports To: Bindery Manager
  • Duties/Expectations: While duties may vary from day to day, below is a list of general duties you can expect in this role.
    • Operates bindery machine equipment (without supervision) - Including but not limited to Die Cutting, Perfect Binding, Folder, Laminator and Stitcher.
    • Inspect finished materials throughout production to ensure accuracy, alignment, and proper finishing (e.g., checking fold quality, trim dimensions, and glue application).
    • Accurately applies job ticket information, enters production data records and meets production standards.
    • Notifies management of impending file problems, supply needs, or other production / scheduling concerns.
    • Interfaces with manufacturers, technicians, management, account managers and fellow operators as needed.
    • Minimize waste/rework/high-cost occurrences through quality control checks, and reports deficiencies
    • Completes general housekeeping, cleans up and keeps the work area neat and orderly
    • Continuously work to develop skills / knowledge and complete all training required by the company
    • Be a team player, communicate clearly and respectfully and maintain a positive attitude
    • Be dependable, reliable, and consistently perform high quality work meeting company production standards
    • Create a safe and hazard free work environment; follow safety protocols and report any risks
    • Perform other duties as needed / assigned
    • Adhere to all company and department policies and procedures
What we are looking for:
  • Position Qualifications:
    • Work Experience: A minimum of 2 years' machine operator experience is required, with print industry and/or Bindery experience preferred. Electric Pallet Jack experience is preferred.
    • Knowledge/Skills: Machine operation, basic computer skills, high-level math skills, and the ability to communicate effectively are required. The ability to apply written instructions, including but not limited to dimensions and quantity, to machine operation is required. Knowledge of bindery and/or sheeting operations, OSHA regulations, LSS, ISO, and a 5S mindset is preferred.
    • Education: High school diploma or GED is required.
    • Must be of legal working age and eligible to work in the U.S.
  • Work Environment/Physical Requirements: Works indoors in a temperature-controlled manufacturing facility and may be exposed to loud sounds, hazardous chemicals, and equipment on the production floor. Must have the ability to bend, lift and carry up to 25 lbs.; stand/walk on hard surfaces for extended periods; complete repetitive tasks; operate computers and/or machines (dexterity, bend, stretch, reach, climb, crouch, etc.); and communicate effectively. *Reasonable accommodation may be available upon request.
