Job description

STS Packaging, a Schwarz Partners, L.P. Joint Venture company is currently seeking a Press Operator in Charlotte, NC. The primary responsibilities of the Press Operator include setting up, operating, maintaining and troubleshooting a wide web, 8-color Central Impression Flexo Press. The Press Operator should have excellent attention to detail, a willingness to work in a team environment, and an ability to effectively communicate with Press Room Assistant daily. Plant is located at 1201 Westinghouse Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28273.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Complete press setups/changeovers; Mount plates as needed; Ensure proper ink film thickness, anilox selection, registration, impression, ink order, color match, tension, and slit width
  • Verification of printed product against customer supplied proof and color targets
  • Perform quality inspections throughout each print roll - color, pH, viscosity, visual, etc.
  • Follow press SOP documentation and suggest continuous improvements to existing SOPs to management
  • Responsible for routine cleaning of plates, anilox sleeves, press parts, etc
  • Complete daily paperwork documenting raw materials, downtimes, shift summary
  • Troubleshoot and correct print defects
  • Effectively communicate with Press Room Assistant on daily job needs
  • Ability to train Press Room Assistant to confidently run the press during breaks, vacations, or other absences

OTHER SIGNIFICANT JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:
  • Maintains a clean and safe work area and reports unsafe conditions to management for resolution.
  • Responsible for reporting any product quality or food safety issues to the Quality Manager (SQF Practitioner) or Management Team member
  • Conform to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's), and Safe Quality Food (SQF) procedures and policies to assure products are suitable for food contact
  • Must follow Safety/GMP/PPE guidelines
  • Additional duties as assigned.

PREFERRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
  • Knowledge of Color Theory
  • Flexographic printing knowledge
  • Computer proficiency
  • Experience printing on a wide-web, flexo C.I. press preferred

REQUIRED SKILLS (Technical, Clerical, Language, etc.):
  • Attention to detail and quality conscious
  • Team-oriented mindset
  • Must have basic leadership skills required to give press assistant simple directions
  • Ability to work an eight-hour shift, including weekends and overtime as needed
  • Basic mechanical knowledge
  • Excellent math and writing abilities
  • Ability to accept additional responsibility and learn new tasks

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Continuous standing and walking with minimal sitting
  • Frequently lift and carry 60-lb ink pails
  • Bending, twisting, kneeling during press cleanup/setup - involves frequent, constant, continuous, and repetitive motions
  • Frequent carrying and holding of wide-web sleeves, plates, chambered doctor blades, and other tools as required
  • Frequent, regular pushing and pulling of paper rolls in excess of 2,300 - 3,300-lb on roll carts
  • Frequent ladder and stair climbing

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
  • Varying temperatures, noise, uneven surfaces, mechanical hazards, dust/dirt, moving equipment
