Job description

Job Summary (in List Format):
- Position: Network Engineer (Field Engineer)
- Location: Richmond, VA (Local candidates only; statewide travel required)
- Work Arrangement: Hybrid (onsite and travel within Virginia)
- Duration: 1 year contract, possible option to convert to full-time employee (FTE) in July 2026
- Interview: In-person only (no virtual interviews)
- Visa Requirements: U.S. Citizens & Green Card holders only
- Compensation: $55/hour (C2C); meals, incidentals, and travel expenses reimbursed per state policy; state vehicle and gas card provided
Key Responsibilities:
- Support IT operations at 4 regional labs and 10 regional offices across Virginia.
- Provide onsite support for PCs, software installation, printers, peripherals, Logitech Teams meeting systems, and both wired/wireless networking.
- Utilize IT Service Management ticketing system for work prioritization and customer communications.
- Offer general end-user support, training, and resolve PC-related queries with a professional and friendly attitude.
- Contribute to the modernization and integration of lab equipment with the CoreOne LIMS system.
- Travel 3-4 times per week, including at least one overnight stay per week (state vehicle provided).
- Submit weekly expense reports for meals and incidentals; travel and onsite time are billable, but not overnight/hotel time.
- Maintain a professional appearance at all times.
- Adhere to a 40-hour workweek with potential for a flexible schedule; overtime requires prior approval.
- Responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the assigned state vehicle via state fleet services.
- Contractor's company must provide workers compensation insurance; state covers vehicle insurance.
- Position may convert to full-time in July 2026, but must apply and be selected through standard hiring process; conversion is not guaranteed.
Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record (mandatory).
- Experience supporting PCs, printers, peripherals, and basic networking (no configuration of routers/switches/firewalls, but knowledge of requesting changes).
- Experience with IT ticketing systems.
- Ability and willingness to travel extensively throughout Virginia.
- Commitment to in-person interview and onsite work.
