Manufacturing Engineering provides technical expertise to numerous manufacturing and development programs within Raytheon. Our work involves electronic hardware for radar, missile and combat systems. The Andover, MA location has over 1 million square feet of manufacturing/production space where product is both assembled and tested. The Principal Engineer role will work as a Lead for Raytheon GEM-T Manufacturing.
What You Will Do
  • Acts as a technical lead for Patriot GEM-T Manufacturing Engineering, supporting a large team of manufacturing engineers in day-to-day
  • Drive strong technical problem solving in support of manufacturing operations
  • Develop, maintain, and review Manufacturing Data Packages (MDPs) including assembly instructions, workflow/routing, labor standards, tool and fixture designs
  • Support a manufacturing area, as part of cross-functional team, by guiding the production team through process troubleshooting and incorporation of engineering changes into the MDP
  • Drive Continuous Improvement through process improvements to improve cycle time, reduce ergonomic risk to assemblers, automate, reduce costs (both direct and indirect) using CORE principles and data driven decision making
  • Engage in design development and/or transition to production at various product phases as the Manufacturing Engineering contributor. Provide real-time technical support to manufacturers and fabricators, in-house as well as the supply base
  • Use manufacturing systems and software, including Microsoft and SAP based applications, to maintain production-relevant information and perform basic data analysis to identify trends within quality data
  • Infrequent travel may be requested on an as-needed basis
  • Apply manufacturing engineering skillsets across the extended value stream to resolve constraints and improve process and product designs
  • Leverage knowledge and technical skills to influence business decisions and results from new designs to recurring production
  • Design, control, and improve the producibility of products through collaboration with a multi-disciplined team
  • Lead and coordinate projects, efforts, and improvements across the extended value streams
  • Act as the manufacturing and producibility authority within the program
  • Communicates and coordinates change reviews and effectivities with CM and IPL, including CNs and Variances
  • Participate in program ERBs, CCBs, MRBs
  • Evaluates factory technical issues and escalates as appropriate to program engineering, program leadership, MPMs
  • Assists in resolving factory to factory quality issues, RCCA, etc

Qualifications You Must Have
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience
  • 5+ years of manufacturing experience
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer
  • Detailed working knowledge of CMES, PRISM and PDM
  • Previous experience with technical drawing interpretation, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), configuration management practices, Military and Industry standards (such as J-STD-001), CAD solid modeling tools (preference for CREO/ProE) and/or simulation tools.
  • Experience in manufacturing engineering support of integration of complex electronic subassemblies
  • Ability to identify, reduce and eliminate cost, quality, and schedule constraints through technical engagements
  • Understand and utilize factory and program performance data

  • Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.

The salary range for this role is 107,500 USD - 204,500 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.
