Introduction
Prince William County is seeking a strategic, collaborative Legislative Affairs Liaison to advance and protect the county's legislative interests. This important position serves as the primary liaison for legislative and intergovernmental matters, involving the Virginia state and federal government, regional partners, and other stakeholders. The Legislative Liaison will monitor policy developments, build productive relationships with elected officials and intergovernmental partners, and provide timely analysis and recommendations to Prince William County leadership.
About This Role:
The Legislative Liaison is responsible for coordinating legislative advocacy, policy monitoring, and intergovernmental engagement for Prince William County. Working with general direction and broad organizational objectives, the incumbent develops plans, priorities, and recommendations that support Prince William County's legislative agenda and strategic interests.
This is a high-visibility, externally facing role requiring sound judgment, strong communication and relationship-building skills, political awareness, and the ability to manage multiple priorities during fast-paced legislative sessions.
Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or G.E.D. and 8 years of related experience.
Preferences:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in public administration, public policy, political science, law, communications, business administration or a related field.
  • Experience working directly with the Virginia General Assembly, Virginia state agencies, or local governments in Virginia.
  • Experience representing a government entity, public agency, nonprofit organization, association, or business in legislative or governmental affairs.
  • Experience drafting legislative testimony, policy briefs, fiscal or programmatic analyses, and executive-level reports.
  • Experience developing legislative agendas, tracking bills, coordinating advocacy campaigns, or managing intergovernmental initiatives.
  • Experience managing contracts for lobbying services.

Special Requirements:
  • This position requires regular travel within Virginia, including to and from Richmond and other locations throughout the state, to attend meetings, conferences, and other events. A valid driver's license is required for travel in the performance of assigned duties.
  • The successful candidate must be able to attend meetings, hearings, and events outside normal business hours, particularly during legislative sessions.
  • Employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of any required background checks.

Work Schedule:
This position generally works Monday through Friday during regular business hours. However, the Legislative Liaison must maintain a flexible schedule and be available for early-morning, evening, and occasional weekend meetings, legislative hearings, stakeholder events, and travel. Extended or nontraditional hours should be expected during the Virginia legislative session and other periods of significant legislative activity.
Hiring Salary Range: $98,475 - $128,017.50 Annually
