Mechanical Design Engineer

Salary range: $95,000 - $105,000 based on experience.

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Engineering team. The ideal candidate supports the design and fabrication of custom highโ€‘vacuum process equipment for thinโ€‘film deposition and aerospace applications. This role focuses on creating and detailing mechanical components and assemblies using SolidWorks and AutoCAD, developing accurate engineering drawings and BOMs, and contributing to design optimization efforts. The position requires effective collaboration with crossโ€‘functional teams, clear technical communication, and handsโ€‘on support for manufacturing during fabrication and system startup. Strong problemโ€‘solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage assigned tasks are essential as the engineer helps drive projects from concept through production.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Research, develop, plan, and design mechanical and electromechanical products and systems for vacuum and thermal applications.
  • Design and detail mechanical assemblies and components using AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
  • Create and maintain engineering drawings that conform to company and industry drawing standards.
  • Develop 3D models and detailed drawings with integrated Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Perform basic engineering calculations and participate in design optimization to improve performance, cost, and manufacturability.
  • Prepare and present technical design review documentation (e.g., PowerPoint, Word) to internal teams and customers.
  • Collaborate with vendors to specify parts and components.
  • Communicate with project engineers and customers to provide updates and assist in issue resolution.
  • Support the shop floor to resolve design-related challenges, demonstrating strong problem-solving skills.
  • Assist sales with conceptual designs and engineering input for proposals.
  • Help develop and improve the companyโ€™s SolidWorks infrastructure and BOM procedures.
  • Contribute to internal process improvements and documentation efforts.
  • Other duties as assigned

COMPETENCIES

  • Strong SolidWorks proficiency.
  • Understanding of vacuum and thermal design considerations.
  • Familiarity with engineering drawing standards.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION & SKILLS

  • Associates Degree in Mechanical Design
  • 2 + yearsโ€™ experience
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Very strong proficiency in SolidWorks & AutoCAD

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Standard office environment with occasional travel to customer sites for evaluations
