POSITION SUMMARY

The Press Operator is responsible for operating a printing press while upholding safety & quality standards. This position is accountable for meeting production goals by adhering to the assigned production schedule. Additional responsibilities include general maintenance of equipment and cleanliness of the work area. Ability to work closely with Machine Assistants to optimize machine uptime. Positions available for Offset Press Operator and Flexo Press Operator.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Set up and operate a two-color offset printing press, ensuring the quality and consistency of printed materials and/or ability to maintain and operate a four to six color flexographic printing press
  • Adhere to all standard processes for safety, quality and production
  • Surface & communicate safety, quality and production issues with Production Lead and Supervisor
  • Maintain and operate a four to six color printing press
  • Mix inks
  • Mount plates only when machine assistant is unavailable to ensure smooth and efficient operation.
  • Troubleshoot on press problems and communicate with Production Lead and Supervisor
  • Call help chain 30 minutes or sooner if unable to resolve issue.
  • Perform general maintenance of equipment or machinery
  • Responsible for the proper set-up, start-up, shut down and clean-up of equipment used with support from Machine Assistance.
  • Read and understand work order instructions
  • Produce quality product according to specifications based on work order instructions
  • Adjust tooling and set-up of equipment according to work order specifications
  • Manage all materials and supplies for equipment used through communication with Machine Assistant
  • Work closely and communicate effectively with corresponding operators and team members
  • Surface problems regarding Safety, Quality, order fulfillment, equipment, process and materials with Production Lead and Supervisor
  • Maintain clean and organized work area
  • Properly complete required documentation
  • Carry out tasks as assigned by the Production Management

QUALIFICATIONS

  • ­­­Education and/or Experience: High School Diploma or GED equivalent, with a minimum of 2-5 years of experience in Flexographic printing or related printing background. Experience may be substituted with education; 2-year printing program.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to complete time reports and production reports. Ability to effectively communicate information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to count, number sequencing, add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office applications; Excel, Word and Outlook.


PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, hands or feet; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, bending, reaching, kneeling, crouch or crawl.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Production environment, which will include constant noise throughout the day. Certain areas of production will require PPE of either hearing and/or eye protection. The environment will include odors and minor variances in temperatures. Production environment requires closed toe shoes, be conscious of work being performed and stay in walking paths whenever possible outside of assigned areas. All individuals must walk with their head up in all areas of the building, parking lot and grounds being conscious of moving vehicles, forklifts, and other potential hazards.
