Qualifications and Detail about the Position
Summary:
Reporting to the Regional President, the Vice President of Operations leads the day-to-day operations of the business in a designated region and advises the Regional President on the execution and direction of the region's financial performance, operations, and strategy. The position ensures that the region achieves sustainable performance in a safe and ethical manner that enhances the company's reputation in the marketplace, with customers, and in the communities where the company does business.
Essential Functions
  • Promote, demonstrate, and instill Brock's Bsafe and Bbest culture in all aspects of the business.
  • Assist in the development, direction, and sustainment of Brock's performance-oriented cultures that embrace Bsafe and Bbest.
  • Ensure operational excellence and effective implementation of the company's strategies.
  • Provide leadership that fosters a competitive, collaborative, high-performance team.
  • Adopt broad business concepts and apply them to enhance profitability, grow the business, and set organizational policies.
  • Establish Regional Strategic Account Management, Product Service Line, and department and functional goals and budgets; manage performance against those plans.
  • Develop and ensure compliance with annual regional operations and capital budgets.
  • Focus on building the most efficient and cost-effective operating model across geographies and customer contract structures.
  • Support the process of continuous improvement initiatives to drive efficiencies, reduce cost, and increase customer satisfaction.
  • Work closely with all functional areas (Finance, HR, HSE, BD, Assets, IT, Project Controls, and Technical Services) to establish and support alignment of best practices.
  • Guide and direct senior level regional operations management (e.g. GM Operations/Operations Managers , Project Managers for specific area/regions) in the development, production, promotion, and financial aspects of the organization's products and services.
  • Oversee/direct the business unit's operation management with responsibility for multiple customers/accounts within the business unit, including P&L responsibility as well as business development responsibility.
  • Act as both a formal and informal resource to the Regional President and other senior managers, providing input on strategic direction and initiatives as well as tactical issues.
  • Oversee the successful implementation of short and longer range plans and programs that meet business unit/operations goals and objectives (e.g. growth objectives).
  • Play a key role in the business unit's business development initiatives, including creating and maintaining relationships with key decision-makers within current and/or targeted customers.
  • Maintain a sound plan to ensure adequate management development and to provide for capable management succession.
  • Develop and install procedures and actions to promote communication and adequate information flow within and among regional projects and project managers, including those outside of this position's immediate span of control (i.e. where servicing the same customer).
  • Serve as strategic account represented to key national and international customers; promote alignment with other business units within the circuit across Brock regions.
  • Evaluate the results of overall and/or specific operations regularly and systematically; report these results to the Regional President and/or designate on an ongoing, regular basis.
  • Ensure that the responsibilities, authorities, and accountability of all direct subordinates are defined, understood, and executed.
  • Ensure that all organization activities and operations are carried out in compliance with company policy and controls; with local, state/provincial, and federal regulations; and with laws governing business operations.
  • Establish and develop new client relationships while fostering current relationships to secure more work and contribute to the growth of the organization.
Working Conditions
  • Working conditions include outdoor and indoor field, yard, and shop locations.
  • Working indoors in an office environment.
  • Utilization of Personal Protective Equipment as necessary.
  • Frequent travel as required.

  • Bachelor's/Post-Secondary degree or 10+ years of increasing leadership responsibility in a mid-large craft/industrial services organization; at least 4-5 years in a senior operations position (e.g. General Manager, VP Operations, Area Manager) overseeing multiple/large projects with significant impact on overall business results.
  • Advanced project certifications desirable (NACE, NCCER, PMP, PMI, etc.).
  • P&L responsibility during the last 4-5 years.
  • Proven track record of growing a P&L over an extended period of time (2-3 years minimum).
  • Proven history of leading business unit(s) with strong safety performance (e.g. low lost time/incident rates).
  • Comply with all applicable safety and environmental laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Record of developing and implementing proactive solutions to meet customer's needs benefiting the company (employer) and the customer.
  • Record of adhering to the highest ethical and professional standards. Must maintain a high degree of integrity.
  • Record of recruiting, motivating, managing, and developing a capable operations/project management team, including development of future succession candidate(s).
  • Working/operational knowledge of key financial and operational drivers for success.
  • Deep industry knowledge and experience covering the breadth of the company's businesses.

Location Information: This is a remote role. The territory for this role is east of the Mississippi.
